ASHES TO ASHES BOWIE

Do you remember a guy that's been
In such an early song
I've heard a rumour from Ground Control
Oh no, don't say it's true

They got a message
from the Action Man
"I'm happy, hope you're happy too
I've loved
all I've needed to love
Sordid details following"

The shrieking of nothing is killing
Just pictures of Jap girls
in synthesis and I
Ain't got no money and I ain't got no hair
But I'm hoping to kick but the planet it's glowing

[CHORUS]
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know Major Tom's 4
a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low

Time and again I tell myself
I'll stay clean tonight
But the little green wheels are following me
Oh no, not again
I'm stuck with a valuable friend
"I'm happy, hope you're happy too"
One flash of light
but no smoking pistol

I never done good things
I never done bad things
I never did anything out of the blue,
Want an axe to break the ice
Wanna come down right now

My mother said
to get things done
You'd better not mess
with Major Tom

CLAPTON WONDERFUL TONIGHT

It's late in the evening; she's wondering what clothes to wear.
She puts on her make-up and brushes her long blonde hair.
And then she asks me, "Do I look all right?"
And I say, "Yes, you look wonderful tonight."

We go to a party and everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady that's walking around with me.
And then she asks me, "Do you feel all right?"
And I say, "Yes, I feel wonderful tonight."

I feel wonderful because I see
The love light in your eyes.
And the wonder of it all
Is that you just don't realize how much I love you.

It's time to go home now and I've got an aching head,
So I give her the car keys and she helps me to bed.
And then I tell her, as I turn out the light,
I say, "My darling, you were wonderful tonight.
Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight."

SUICIDAL THOUGHTS BIG

When I die, f**k it I wanna go to hell
Cause I'm a piece of shit, it ain't hard to f**kin' tell
It don't make sense, goin' to heaven wit the goodie-goodies
Dressed in white, I like black Tims and black hoodies
God will probably have me on some real strict shit
No sleepin' all day, no gettin my dick licked
Hangin' with the goodie-goodies loungin' in paradise
F**k that shit, I wanna tote guns and shoot dice
All my life I been considered as the worst
Lyin' to my mother, even stealin' out her purse
Crime after crime, from drugs to extortion
I know my mother wished she got a f**kin' abortion
She don't even love me like she did when I was younger
Suckin' on her chest just to stop my f**kin' hunger
I wonder if I died, would tears come to her eyes?
Forgive me for my disrespect, forgive me for my lies
My babies' mothers 8 months, her little sister's 2
Who's to blame for both of them (naw nigga, not you)
I swear to God I just want to slit my wrists and end this
bullshit
Throw the Magnum to my head, threaten to pull shit
And squeeze, until the bed's, completely red
I'm glad I'm dead, a worthless f**kin' buddah head
The stress is buildin' up, I can't,
I can't believe suicide's on my f**kin' mind
I want to leave, I swear to God I feel like death is f**kin'
callin' me
Naw you wouldn't understand (nigga, talk to me please)
You see its kinda like the crack did to Pookie, in New Jack
Except when I cross over, there ain't no comin' back
Should I die on the train track, like Remo in Beatstreet
People at the funeral frontin' like they miss me
My baby momma kissed me but she glad I'm gone
She knew me and her sista had somethin' goin' on
I reach my peak, I can't speak,
call my nigga Chic, tell him that my will is weak.
I'm sick of niggas lyin', I'm sick of bitches hawkin',
matter of fact, I'm sick of talkin'.

MISSION ECSTASY THE HORRORIST

I was in my apartment and I said, Yo Rob!.
And he said, Yo Oliver what's up?.
And I said, I like fuckin drugs.
He said, Yeah?. I said, Yeah, lets take some E!.
And he said, Yeah!.

So we went downtown to my friend Leslie's house on our bikes,
and was like; Yo Leslie I'm gonna take these bitches to the movies.
Could I have fifty dollars? Cause like I wanna buy them popcorn and shit.
And she was like; Yeah I guess so. You going to pay me back?
And I was like; Yeah, i'll pay you back.
She was like; ÒAlright you can take these girls to the movies, that's cool.
And I was like; That's cool, yeah I'm gonna get them popcorn and shit.

Yo, but what she didn't realize and understand,
what she didn't catch onto was the basic fact that well...

We were on a mission... for extacy. We were on a mission for extacy.

Mission extacy. Mission; cause I like fuckin drugs.
Mission extacy. Mission; cause I like fuckin drugs.

I said, Yo Rob you stupid nigga, we got bicycles...
man man's in Brooklyn, how we gonna get there?
He said, Yo let's go to Lisa's she'll give us a ride.
I was like; Yeah? He was like; Yeah, she'll give us a ride.

So we went down town to fuckin Lisa's and I said,
Yo Lisa my man in Brooklyn, he's got this book I need for my school project.
And she was like; Yeah? And was like; You wanna ride?
I was like; Yeah we need a ride. She was like;
That's cool you know, because it's for your school project.

Ha. So shit we got in the car and headed out to Brooklyn you know,
going over the fuckin Williamsburg Bridge, fuckin to Williamsburg;
you know checkin in where my friend lives.

But you know what? What she didn't realize was...

We were on a mission for extacy. We were on a mission for E.
And we lied to her! Cause we don't give a fuck. Cause we don't give a fuck!

Mission extacy. Mission extacy. Mission extacy.
Mission; cause I like fuckin drugs...

Yeah; and wouldn't you fuckin know it! My man said,
I aint got no shit now. We gotta go to Manhattan.
And I was like; ÒYo we just came from Manhattan.
So we got back in the car and I said,
Yo Lisa this is my friend, he left his book in Manhattan.
She was like; Yeah? She was like; You need it for your school project.
And I was like; Yeah I need it for my school project.
Can you give us a ride back? She was like;
Yeah that's cool, for your school project and all.

But what she didn't know was... What she didn't realize was...

We were on a mission for extacy. We were on a mission, and we lied to her!

Mission extacy. Mission extacy. Mission extacy.
Mission; cause I like fuckin drugs.

So we got our E's. And we fuckin paid him his fifty dollars.
And fuckin Lisa gave us a ride back to our apartment.
And I sat down in my purple chair and I looked out the window,
and I said, Rob take your E. And I took my E.
And he took his fuckin E.

And then we felt it!! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! E-x-t-a-c-y.

BEATLES I AM THE WALRUS
I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I’m crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob.

Mister city policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like lucy in the sky, see how they run.
I’m crying, I’m crying.
I’m crying, I’m crying.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog’s eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob.

Sitting in an english garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don’t come, you get a tan
From standing in the english rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob g’goo goo g’joob.

Expert textpert choking smokers,
Don’t you thing the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty,
See how they snied.
I’m crying.

Semolina pilchard, climbing up the eiffel tower.
Elementary penguin singing hari krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking edgar allan poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob g’goo goo g’joob.
Goo goo g’joob g’goo goo g’joob g’goo.

BEATLES DAY IN THE LIFE

I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh and
I saw the photograph

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They’d seen his face before,
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords.

I saw a film today oh, boy
The english army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had a look
Having read the book,
I’d love to turn you on...

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Ah

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all,
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall.
I’d love to turn you on...

NEIL YOUNG "Only Love Can Break Your Heart"

When you were young
and on your own
How did it feel
to be alone?
I was always thinking
of games that I was playing.
Trying to make
the best of my time.

But only love
can break your heart
Try to be sure
right from the start
Yes only love
can break your heart
What if your world
should fall apart?

I have a friend
I've never seen
He hides his head
inside a dream
Someone should call him
and see if he can come out.
Try to lose
the down that he's found.

But only love
can break your heart
Try to be sure
right from the start
Yes only love
can break your heart
What if your world
should fall apart?

I have a friend
I've never seen
He hides his head
inside a dream
Yes, only love
can break your heart
Yes, only love
can break your heart

Beatles - Blue Jay Way Lyrics

There's a fog upon L.A.
And my friends have lost their way
We'll be over soon they said
Now they've lost themselves instead.
Please don't be long please don't you be very long
Please don't be long or I may be asleep
Well it only goes to show
And I told them where to go
Ask a policeman on the street
There's so many there to meet
Please don't be long please don't you be very long
Please don't be long or I may be asleep
Now it's past my bed I know
And I'd really like to go
Soon will be the break of day
Sitting here in Blue Jay Way
Please don't be long please don't you be very long
Please don't be long or I may be asleep.
Please don't be long please don't you be very long
Please don't be long
Please don't be long please don't you be very long
Please don't be long
Please don't be long please don't you be very long
Please don't be long
Don't be long - don't be long - don't be long
Don't be long - don't be long - don't be long.

DJ MANA (two time Montreal DMC champion)

Mana is notorious for his skill in scratching (the art of creating rhythmic sound by moving a vinyl record back and forth). However, his skill in DJing goes beyond just scratching and hip-hop. His body of work includes long DJ sets in many genres, battle-style DJ sets, sound engineering, DJ tutoring, and music production.

Mana always had a passion for music since he was a child. From 1993-1997, his older brother DJ Flee and friend Rob Brown inspired him to practice mixing house and breakbeat music. In spring of 1997, DJ Sevin showed him videos of DJ QBert, A-Trak, D-Styles, Beat Junkies, X-Men, Mixmaster Mike, and the many legends of turntablism. This pushed Mana to dedicate himself to a regimen of 4 hours a day of highly organized turntable practice.

The DJ battle scene brought Mana into the spotlight. His first DJ Battle was the Montreal ITF Elimination in 1999. DJ Matrix beat him in the first round at this battle. However, from this experience, Mana practiced even harder. Since then Mana went on to win many titles and, more importantly, respect from other great DJs and turntablists. He won ITF Montreal in 2000, KoolMixx Hawaii in 2002, Import Revolution Hawaii in 2002, and DMC Montreal in 2003/ 2004. Also, he performed alongside the likes of DJ Q-Bert, Mixmaster Mix, I-Emerge, Funky Teknicians, and X-Ecutioners. He joined Nocturnal Sound Krew (Hawaii) in 2000 and Island City Monsters (Montreal) in 2002.

Although battling was a highlight in his career, Mana chose to focus on self expression rather than competition. He explores the human soul through music production; scratch composition; playing various styles in his DJ sets; and helping others attain self-expression through DJing. Mana founded Soul Mechanics DJ School in 2004 to fulfill these goals. He currently runs the DJ school out of the heart of downtown Montreal.

Melon
Having spent his teenage years in the isolated wilderness of Northern Ontario, Melon staved off boredom and dementia by seeking out and exposing new sounds. He quickly developed a healthy vinyl addiction and became obsessed with the baser elements of breaks and electro.

In an effort to expand his perception of, and influence on the rest of the world, Melon relocated to Montreal in 1999 where he met a group of like-minded artists, which became the Broken Crew.

A self described "dirty breakbeat punk" Melon seamlessly mixes sets that combine raw electro, dub, funky breaks and soul. His passion for music is simple; it's the one thing, through out all these years, that has never let him down.

The name melon is derived from an old proverb:
"A woman for duty,
A boy for Pleasure,
But a melon for ecstasy."

alright two dreams i remember from last night

#1 - very vague memory. i'm lookign through a bin entitled JAZZ or a section in a record store or something, for some reason there's a Hendrix record in it, one i've never seen before. i listen to it and it's just jimi soloing like mad over these dope jazzy minimal beats or something and i was like 'wow, i guess hendrix actually IS jazz, i always thought it was blues, but it's SO jazz' or some shit

#2 - i'm in my apartment, my bro is asleep on the futon. i wake him up and bring him into my bedroom so he can sleep comfortably, in my bed. then i wanna take a piss before i go to sleep (on the futon i guess? i dunno) for some reason the light is off in the washroom so i'm using the light on my cell phone , but at this point i realize or in my dream at least that im asleep so im trying to wake myself up with the cell phone light or something. but i can't see the light, i can't see properly, like i'm asleep but standing up all fucked up. next thing i know the lights are fully on in the washroom, then i wake up, and i'm lying on the futon. had to piss like a motherfucker. pissed, then went to sleep in my bed.

part of the reason behind our decision to move actually is our belief that the new night upstairs, backed by Musique Plus' 1-2-3 Punk show and showcasing live bands every week, will be more succesful than any of the countless nights that have shuffled in and out of the downstairs since we began Mix in April... the musiqueplus peeps seem serious, they've been interested for awhile, and they can only do their night upstairs as downstairs is just not as well equipped for live shows... so if it's good for the club, it's good for the mix, and ideally we can have a clubnight where BOTH floors are jumpin all the time.. woot.

ROMEO KARDEC - [ www.romeokardec.ca ]

Ferociously independent, Mr Kardec is nonetheless known to be very diplomatic in promoting the sound he loves so much. His ability to bring new music to more and more demanding dance floors, coupled with his DIY attitude earned him the respect of both crowds and fellow DJs.

By day, Francois can be found working at acclaimed electronic music label Turbo Recordings, where he fills in the position of production manager. Being so close to international talent and cutting edge music has definitely helped him forge his unique sound. For the record, it is Mark Dillon, label co-owner with DJ and producer jet-setter Tiga, who gave Romeo his first DJ residency a few years back.

The future for Romeo Kardec? Obviously keep on pushing the barriers of underground electronic music, both on the dance floor and in the studio. You can expect new music from the producer in 2006, as well as solid residencies and sought after guest spots at world renowned clubs. Rock On!

k it's kinda fuzzy cause i waited too long after waking up, but i had this flash of memory in the shower... it was Db Vaig's birthday party and the Hardsteppers were playing.. in some small one room venue, it was 4 or 5 $ to get in (kind of like a twisted version of dialect's bonanza i guess) except the room was inside a large complex.. so sase played then i was supposed to DJ, for some reason i played one track and then these guys (who were also part of the hardsteppers somehow but they weren't, they were like 2 17 year old white dudes with parkas on) both started scratching like crazy on the beats that were playing. we were using Josh's monitors and they were really quiet, one of them was making a buzzing shit noise constantly (just like in real life heheh), and i remember thinking that craig should've invested in better sound. then, these other guys asked me if they could get on cause they were supposed to play in 10 mintes and i was like well let me play 2 more tracks, cause the scratching dudes had dissapeared, nobody was behind the decks.. but when I went to reach for my record bag, it wasn't where i thought it should be, then i saw out of the corner of my eye an elevator door closing, and it looked like my record bag was on the floor of the elevator (like someone IN the elevator was stealing it or something?) so I got in the elevator just as the door was closing.. of course it wasn't my record bag, so i got out of the elevator on the next floor, but it proved to be very difficult to walk back to the event, i was caught in this looping maze of weird hallways .. at one point i could SEE the party but i was on a mezzanine above it so I couldn't get to it, blocked by a pane of glass like at a hockey game... then i started following this asian businessman dude somehow figuring he knew they way out, but i followed him to his desk, where he was crunching numbers with these other asian businessmen. i started yelling at them about how it was impossible to get the fuck out of here and that it always LOOKED like you were goin the right way but whoever had constructed the building must've been a complete fucking IDIOT because he'd put a WALL right where there should be like, a stairwell, connecting the two floors. or some shit. i remember thinking that I really had to get back to the party because somebody was gonna steal my record bag which actually WAS in the room, somewhere, that i had left in order to searc hfor it. i don't remember anything after that

craziness.

thanks rhys for slapping me in the face, BITING my fucking face off then throwing broken glass at everyone, good thing i punched you square in the forehead YES! good times heheh.. big thanks to Derelict for closin the night off with a HEAVY, HEAVY breaks set, kept the floor vibing until the very end. Sase shamelessly rocked the party tracks, Bias suprised me with a super dark electro-ey set, amazing, this kid fucking owns behind the decks and now I realize he's also a very diverse DJ... you'll definitely be seeing more of him in coming months. osicka did a characteristically excellent job of opening, and Basement Wigger, what more can i say, DOPENESS. nice up on the strongbad too hhehe.

i fell asleep watching war of the worlds then had this heavy dream about some sort of dust wiping out 99.9% of the world's population. obviously i survived with a few friends (can't remember who they were, i think meg hewings the assistant editor at the Hour was one of them, wtf?) and we were all in this house, i was so paranoid about people finding us and eating our food and shit that i made us turn all the lights off and push furniture against all the doors and windows and stuff. then i actually slept for a night in my dream. then the next day for some reason i was completely mashed on e, it was like my birthday or something, and we were wandering around this desolate wasteland hell that remained of earth, trying to have fun but bad tripping so hard and still being totally paranoid. then i saw daniel babins and i told him he should like pull a curtain over his window cause i could clearly see him getting food out of his minifridge and someone would come kill him and rob him for his food if they saw that. then i just remember being totally mashed out, and feeling like i had to get away, go home, but i had no home to go to, i couldn't go outside cause i would die or something, and basically it turned into a horrible nightmare. then i woke up and dammit i was glad, one of those dreams that're a massive relief to get out of. shiot.

the SAT is a venue, they don't throw the "bitchen" parties that you refer to, it's promoters that throw them. not sure which one's you've been to, I Love Neon maybe? anyways, SAT is not a "rave" it's a legal venue, closes at 3. anyways.

if you're talking about dialect's party (i assume? since it WAS in a small place) well come on dude, it was four fucking dollars, a god-damned BIRTHDAY party, with NO flyers (that I saw at least).. if anything the overcrowding of the venue points to people's appreciation for EXACTLY that type of shindig.

so to all that keep complaining, do something about it, throw a fucking party, call a venue, rent a spot, it's SO much easier than you'd ever imagine.

and to thegoods... are you scott c or andy williams? if so, you guys do dope shit, and good looking out with an eye on the so-called "rave" community, or more electronica-ish music than you're used to, or whatever, seriously. it's good to see you're investigating, listening and opining on the subject. :)
