you want drama?

That night I just happened to be using the ladies room (the men's room is sick, if you've been to saphir you already know). And sure enough, as soon as i close the stall door, who walks in but Nimi and her friend...and I listen as Nimi basically begs her friend to come and talk to me, on her behalf.

What for...who knows....right?

Actually, the money was wrapped up in the "high school drama" note that I was handed....by someone else. I had no idea there was cash inside till afterward.

Maybe if certain people were mature enough to TALK to people about their high school crushes rather then send notes and ask friends to talk to them on their behalf, this shit wouldn't happen.

Or maybe it's just the cash inside being burnt to a crisp that pissed you off.

Sorry I've been pretty lazy for the last couple of weeks, and there havn't exactly been a ton of d&b releases...however this week there are plenty of titles that need mentioning...

[DRUM & BASS]

D.Kay & Epsilon - Barcelona on BC Authorised.
After almost a year and a half on dubplate, the latin flavoured anthem from D Kay (AKA Mindmachine), hits the streets. This is the first of 2 twelves and it features the original dub mix that you've been hearing around the clubs, and the MC Stamina fuelled vocal lick.

D.Kay & Epsilon - Barcelona REMIXES on BC Authorised.
As hot as the original, Bad Company take this anthem and add their signature bassline making it more of a peak-time tune. On the flip, none other then High Contrast doin' his thing, this time with the legendary Cleveland Watkiss on vocal duties.

Brockie & Ed Solo - Sleeping Giant/Piano Tune on Undiluted.
New bassline thumpers from some of the originators. Essential for jump-up fans and hard-steppers alike.

Exile - King Shredda/Spanner in the Worx on Frequency.
Andy C's side project keeps growing in memebers as new signing Exile hits us with number 7. His trademark style is spiced up with sharp edits which make this track sound VERY unique, almost Aphex Twin-esque. The flip brings more of the same sound. A very different and forward thinking release from the RAM camp.

Audio, Mackie & Wrisk - Sound Assault/Fat Legs on Invader.
As if having a top notch drum & bass label of their own wasn't good enough, these boys are signing tunes to every single label out there. Outbreak, Outbreak LTD and now Invader grab smashers from the Gain boys, now working under the 'Resonant Evil' moniker. Hot.

Gridlok - Hotel/Vengeance on Gain.
Probably the top tune in this week aside from Barcelona of course. All I've got to say is that it's Gridlok AND it's got heavy metal guitars in it.

Psidream - Solar Waves/Identity on Breakbeat Science.
Ever since this guy came to town I've been bombarded with requests for his recent material. Well after a hot first run, the 2nd pressing is here so quit bugging me!

Twisted Individual - Hand Granade RMX/Amen Slag RMX on Grid.
Remix business all around on Twisted's label, Hand Grenade gets the Drumsound & Simon Bassline Smith treament. While Amen Slag gets remixes by JB in Back 2 Basics stylee.

Silver - Sound Control/Light Mind on Emotif.
More new material coming from Silver on a solo tip. This guy is definetly starting to find his own sound, setting him appart from the rest.

Mason - Ruff Rugged & Raw/Zerosum Breakout on Freak.
Before the massive 'Be There 4 You' remixes come out, Dylan brings american producer Mason to the forefront of his still young Freak Recordings. Mason rips it up very nice with sharp as fuck amen splices and a real heavy bottomed bass, this could only have come from the US. Featuring the vocal talents of MC Armanni Reign, Dieselboy's MC who is currently on tour with none other then Goldie.

Facs & B-Key - Mantra/Immeasurable Minds on Biotic.
The return of Biotic. A nice solid roller from Facs and friends, I'm really feelin' this record.

More stuff coming on Thursday or Friday (probably friday) so keep it locked.

Has anyone seen the new film from Bam Margera: Haggard...they duct-tape shit logs to someones garage door...sounds fun eh?

I can't believe we still have copies of the Pendulum in stock...not to mention the new RAM Trilogy. Either way, there's lots of good tunes in this week, and we may or may not be receiving a second shipment at the end of the week.

No more chit-chat...

[DRUM & BASS]

High Contrast - Basement Track on Hospital.
Those of you who have been checkin' us out @ Saphire on thursdays will recognize this one. Wicked female vocal and old school piano stabs make this tune an instant rewind every time. Also includes a dub version for those of you who like it simple, and an accapella too!

Gridlok - Vampire/Aggressor on Violence.
The latest from Hive's label comes with more American talent. Gridlok drops the bomb on this twelve as we anticipate Hive's 'Neo' track which should be out shortly.

Die - Soundtape/100 Miles & Runnin' on Full Cycle.
Some new solo shit from Die, taking a break from the Kamanchi business with partner Krust. This is the first tune Die has done on his own in like 2 years...so check it!

Chameleon - Miss India/Spirit Of The Earth on Frequency.
The roster of Andy C's new label grows even more with the addition of Ill-Logic & Raf going undercover with their new 'Chameleon' guise. Hot Eric B & Rakim samples make this tune instantly recognizable on the dancefloor.

Twisted Individual - Bandwagon Blues on Formation.
Finally the tune that everyone has been talking about is here. Twisted's anger towards Distorted Minds is very apparent here...as he seems to think they're biting his style. Flipped with a tune called 'Does exactly what it says on the tin or your money back'.

EZ Rollers - Outtakes + Missing Breaks Vol. 1 on Moving Shadow.
Next up from the limited 'X' series on Moving Shadow is a nice double pack of rarities and remixes. Features a Tommy Knocker remix of 'Submission', and a new EZ Rollers remix of their classic 'Tough At The Top'. On the second record you get a hot breaks mix of 'Walk This Land' from none other then Koma & Bones, as well as the title track from their LP 'You'll Never Know' featuring Doug E. Fresh and Sharon Brown....and one MORE tune called 'Tu Ruff'.

D-Region - The Way It Feels/Fired Up on Furious.
Our Toronto transplant comes correct with his next 12". This one features 2 tunes that have been causing quite a stir in the d&b scene and could very well be their biggest single yet (that's if you don't include their next hot single from Stare & Phibbs of DSCI4/Blindside fame).

Santa Cruz - All The Way/Love Games on Defunked.
You know the label, you know what to expect.

Resonant Evil - Bunker Buster/Doomsday Device on Outbreak Limited.
New name for the combined forces of Audio, Mackie and Wrisk. The Gain boys team up once again and DEVASTATE with their awesome sound....

Ray Kieth feat. Alexandra and MC Navigator - No No/Do Ya Wanna Dance? on Dread.
Finally getting dropped, this wikked remake of the classic "no no no..." tune has allthe element to get ladies on the dancefloor. And you know what that means....if the ladies are there, everyone's there.

[BREAKS]

General Midi - Furthur/House Mix on TCR.

Layo & Bushwacka - Net Bugz/Tool A/Tool B on Plank.

Junior Senior - Rhythm Bandits/Cocodub/Santos Remix on Crunchy Frog.

Ils - Y4K on Distinctive Breaks.
Tons of tunes from the Mix CD, completely unmixed: Fight Alone - Ed 209, 10 Sui - Go Deeper, Blowfelt - Ardcore, Roni Size/Reprazent - Lucky Pressure (Ils Remix), Initial Research - The Visitors, Pixie - It Don't Come Easy, Evil Nine - Cakehole, Chris Coco - Albatross (Christian J Remix).

Kosheen - All In My Head on Moksha.
Features Planet Funk Mix and Decoder & Substance Mix.

Various - NEW:BPM on En:Vision.
Feature tunes from the CD mixed by Future Funk Squad. FFS vs Madam Breaks - Sky, C83 - Taurus II : Gemini, Kraymon - On Time, Bill Vega & New Decade - Get The Message (2003 Remix).

Eggs? Why don't you TP my house?

Jeeze, can you be a bit more creative? I thought you were going to find a picture of me from there....

I not only went to Sunnydale, I also went to Westpark AND Hebrew Foundation School.

whatevah!

Just a few more titles to add on for this week!

[DRUM & BASS]

Chris Su & SKC - Yorke/Limelight on Encrypted Audio.
Brand new label from DSCI4 head-honcho Trace. First up are none other then Hungary's finest! The A-side is where it's at on this dancefloor tech roller...while the flip takes that old school Peshay live funk approach.

Optiv & Concord Dawn - Zulu/Quattro on Red Light.
A side-project from Cause 4 Concern's main man Optiv, Red Light has now become the main attraction as far as I'm concerned. Teaming up with New Zealand's Concord Dawn these guys tear up the place on BOTH sides. I sold 3 copies of this record while writing this review.

Various - No Smoke Without Fire LP on Metalheadz.
The third album from Goldie's legendary imprint hits the shelves and really showcases all styles this time around. Standout tunes are a new joint from Goldie himself under his 'Rufige Kru' moniker and Bad Company's Fresh drops his immense 'All Strung Out'. But I've got to say the real bomb on this album is Lemon D's untouchable remix of the Alex Reece classic 'Pulp Fiction'. There's also new material from Spirit, Loxy & Ink, Hidden Agenda, Danny C, Calyx & Kontrol AND Total Science....whew!

Oh yeah, I also got more of the new Pendulum on 31 back in....so hurry!

Ok, so once again, we will be having more new stock in on Friday...as if the shit we've got in now isn't good enough....

[DRUM & BASS]

RAM Trilogy - Screamer EP on RAM.
After some manufacturing difficulties, what was once a single is now a VERY necessary EP for all true headz. Features Skittles, The Map, the long awaited M.I.S.T remix of Evolution and of course, the anthem Screamer!

Jah Murdah & R Cola - Chopstick #003
You know them, you love them, and you won't stop calling me asking when the next one is coming out! Montreal's original dubplate master Jack Beetz teams up with R Cola once again for their 3rd release in their 10-inch series...and as usual, it's a CORKER! Vocal mix on the a-side, backed with an instrumental....strictly for the rude boys.

Keaton - Invisible Man EP on Renegade Hardware.
The man behind Usual Suspects and Universal Project steps out of the shadows and into the limelight, showcasing his inimitable style of hard-as-nails drum & bass. Features 'Betrayal (Snake Bitch)', 'Once Again (feat. Usual Suspects)' and the killer Trace remix of Keaton & Hive's 'The Plague'.

Kaos, Karl K & Jae Kennedy - Dat Phunk/Soul On Fire on Atlas.
DJ Lee comes correct with the second release off his label. This time bringing in Philly's 'Weapon' crew minus Dieselboy. These guys have been ripping shit up on all sorts of labels, including Breakbeat Science and Human. This double a-sided twelve kicks it off with a very hot housey/trancey hybrid bomb which samples none other then Daft Punk to dazzling effect...add in the flip who's immense breakdown will turn all heads, and you have another champion for North American D&B.

Audio & Mackie - Fireball/Outer Limits on Outbreak.
The Gain/G2 boys finally getting some well-deserved attention...from none other then Dylan! Both sides of this record are very hard, and very dancefloor friendly...how do they do it? I have no idea.

Various - Kings Of The Rollers Vol.3 on 31 Records.
I'll just put the tracklisting and let YOU run to the store ok?
Pendulum - Vault
Total Science - Can Opener
D Kay - Reach Inside
Usual Suspects - Sapphire 7

Jaimeson - Complete (Danny Fresh RMX) on V2.
This records kicks ASS. Hot hip hop flavour, hot female vocal, hot rhymes from MC Skibadee, and one HOT remix from Mr.Fresh of Bad Company! Record of the week in my book.

Pascal - Johnny 2003 (Bad Company RMX)/Flip It on True Playaz.
This one has been on dub for what some might call a 'long time', so while the sound may be a bit out-dated for the Bad Company crew, face it, their shit is timeless.

J Majik Featuring Kathy Brown - Share The Blame on Infrared.
Long awaited reunion of J Majik with his 'Love is not a game' collaborator...a very nice house remix on the flip too!

J Majik & Wickaman - Elephant on Infrared.
Flipped with the Cookie Monters RMX of Share the Blame.

[BREAKS]

General Midi - U Will Be Under/Tentacled on Kilowatt.

Hedrock Valley Beats feat. Matt Fulton - How Do You Feel on FAT Records.

Chase & Status - Wise Up/Tricky on Bingo.

[DRUM & BASS]

Omni Trio - Renegade Snares (High Contrast RMX) on Moving Shadow.
You may have heard this at Saphir on thursdays, and then heard it get REWOUND over and over. Make no mistake, this is the tune of the week.

Drumsound & Bassline Smith - Junglist/The Don on Technique.
The dangerous duo return with two seperate twelves. The first brings the hotly anticipated Junglist, backed with The Don....

Drumsound & Bassline Smith - Junglist (Twisted Ind. RMX)/Original Bad Boy VIP on Technique.
The original wobbler is back on remix duty, turning the Junglist into an absolute dancefloor killer. As if that wern't enough, they flip this record with a VIP mix of the hottest tune from the 'Planets EP', Original Bad Boy.

Sonic - Still Dreaming EP on Space.
Another long awaited peice of disco madness finally hits the shelves...get it while it's hot! Also features the Futureworld RMX.

Kamanchi - Hold It Down (Feat. Tali)/Movin' Fast on Full Cycle.
As if the last single from these guys wasn't good enough...here's ANOTHER instant rewind from the 2 craziest boys out of Bristol: Krust & Die, and this one also features the one and only MC Tali!

Influx Datum - Take My/Back For More (High Contrast RMX) on Formation.
After the success of their 100th release series, Formation gets back down to business with one of their biggest artists, Influx Datum, and with High Contrast on remix duties, you know it's gonna be crazy.

[BREAKS]

Plump DJs - Eargasm LP on Finger Lickin'.
