junglists are broke.

broke people can't afford expensive food...

therefore they buy ramen.

ramen sucks until you add the "special powder flavour"

hence....junglists have flavour.

i don't know.

Actually...you can buy Absinth right here in Montreal, and it's legal. I'm not talking about that fake shit that's got .02% in it...i'm talking about Hill's Absinth, 70% Alc./Vol. and the real deal. It's only available at the SAQ at Prince Arthur/St-Laurent AND it's about $70.00 a bottle. If you're going to buy it yourself and drink it, I HIGHLY suggest you read up on how to do it, cuz you don't just down it ok?
I won't get into details, just do a search online.

Also, yes they serve it at Billy Kun and O Patro Vys, it's $14 a glass.

This week is madness, and you just paid your rent so no more excuses! Definetly a few 'must haves' this week...

[DRUM & BASS]

arQer & Realtime - Unlocked/FLCL on Outbreak Ltd.
After signing tunes on every label from DSCI4 to Core, and now starting up their own imprint 'Monkey Bizness' you can be sure to hear alot more from these boys from TEXAS. Dylan grabs these two monsters for his Outbreak Limited series and murders you another one.

D.Kay & Rawfull - Bowser/Soulshaker on ill.skillz
First release on their new label and hot on the trails of chart smashers like 'Barcelona' and 'Be There 4 You'. Bowser is just that...a MONSTER. You may have heard this as the last tune in my or Stabba's sets, we LOVE this tune, and it's nothing like you've ever heard before. Did I mention the b-side is also insane? Record of the week.

Gridlok - V_Ger/Crooked on Payload.
Another 'first' this week as Stakka starts up his new sub-label to Cargo. And who better to help him with it then with one of North Amerca's top d&b producers, Gridlok. V_Ger is a wicked little tech piece with heavy/tight drums, and a little trancey vibe hidden in the background. Crooked has a nice wierd vibe going on and a wicked little bassline, definetly check this 12.

Kontrol/Le Lutin - Cocoon (Friction & Nu Balance RMX)/Future Mashup on Metaphor.
What can i say without being biased? The 2nd release on Montreal's own Metaphor, and it's a mash-up alright. Friction & Skinny tear up Kontrol's 'Cocoon' to a devastating result. While France native Le Lutin drops the long awaited 'Future Mashup' on the flip. Did I mention that the graphic design is by none other then Generic himself! WOW! BUY THIS RECORD.

Underworld - Born Slippy Nuxx (London Elektricity RMX) on JBO.
I didn't even know this record was coming in this week. Huge remix by one of the most musically talented guys out there. All I can say it that this remix keeps the original vocal intact and still manages to make it sound cool...

Calibre - Just Fine EP on Creative Source.
If you're feeling the dubby side of drum & bass, I highly suggest you check out this double pack. Features Just Fine, Rejack, Hold Back - Jah, and Train Version.

K-Step - Check My Style/Da Blues on Sudden Def.
New talent on Sudden Def, one side of this record is very original, with a early tech-step sound and original synths throughout, it even slows down in the middle without getting annoying. The flip is a more jazzy number and doesn't really fit....but I still find this a strong twelve.

Defiant - Infinite/No Return on G2.
Another new artist makes their first appearance on G2, more tech-trance-jungle madness. Both sides are out of this world, and very hard.

Gridlok & Origin - Mirror/Parasites on Project 51.
How many new labels can have their first release in one week? Who cares? Gridlok is officially the MAN, starting up his own label (it's about time) and dropping mad tunes on our ass. This is only the beginning.

Greg Packer - Mindwarp/Rock Da House on Gain.
Believe it or not, this Australia native can actually make hard tunes, and this is a fine example. Completely unexpected hard tech-step d&b from Mr.Packer and it's good!

EZ Rollers - Lickable Beats Part 2 on Intercom.
If you haven't yet heard EZ Rollers 'Roadrunner' featuring Sharon Brown, and you're into the Intercom sound, then RUN don't walk to DNA right now. Also features Midnight Express, Tommy Knocker's 'Airborne Phunk' and 60 Minute Man's 'Feel The Music'.

Total Science/Q-Project - Cats Eyes/Bump & Grind on Grid.
Smooth move by Twisted Individual, putting some different material out on his normally exclusively 'formation' styled label.

Sonic - Falling/Sunday Morning on Space.
Next single from Sonic's Space Recordings, more deep stuff, nice.

[DRUM & BASS RESTOCK]

Bad Company - Planet Dust/Speedball on Prototype.

Various Artists - Connexions EP on Prototype.
Features: Bad Company 'The Pulse 2000', Codename John 'Be With You', Trace 'Sonar (Optical & Trace RMX)', Inta Warriors 'Inta (Special Forces RMX)'.

Trace - Sonar/Sphere on Prototype.

Bad Company - The Pulse/China Cup on Prototype.

EZ Rollers - Outtakes & Missing Bits Part 2 on Moving Shadow.
Features the Concord Dawn remix of 'Dust'.

Digital - Gateman (Keaton RMX)/Get Loose on Phantom Audio.

Various Artists - Paranoia EP on Renegade Hardware.
Features Pendulum's 'Trail Of Sevens' and Concord Dawn's 'Raining Blood' (the Slayer tune).

[BREAKS]

Hedrock Valley Beats feat. Matt Fulton - How Do You Feel (Koma & Bones RMX)/Dub on FAT!

Deekline & Wizard feat. David Elliot - 4x4x4 on Botchit & Scarper.
Also features 'Sun Is Shining' with Donna D & King Koop feat. Desy & IC3.

Deekline & Wizard feat. David Elliot - 4x4x4 (Drummatic Twins RMX)/4x4x4 (Aquasky VS Masterblaster RMX) on Botchit & Scarper.

My fingers are tired...

Peace!

TAKE A BREAK
Breakbeat, Drum & Bass

Corey K
[DNA Records, Saphir Thursdays]

Soundshaper
[Planetmars, Unity II]

Saturday October 4th 2003
O Patro Vys - 356 Mont-Royal East
10pm to 3am

So it's not a last minute party or anything, just a little bit different. We're going to be playing a bit more dubby d&b, some breaks from Soundshaper, it should be fun. For those of you who don't know the club, it's above Billy Kun...you know, the bar that serves Absinthe.

Peace...

Ok so shit's going to be running even more smoothly now that I can do this from home....there will definetly be a second shipment of vinyl coming in later this week.

[DRUM & BASS]

Hive - Neo/Gemini on Violence.
Tune of the week, right here. The now notorious 'Neo' was originally slated for the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack, but must have been deemed too 'hard'. This tune is insane...you've definetly heard it already, either at Saphir or Blue Dog or on the internet, so I won't even bother describing it. Top notch production from one of the top american producers today.

Dillinja & Lemon D - Killa-Hertz LP on Valve.
These guys simply do not stop, this next LP has got strictly heavy dancefloor material, as if they ever make anything else. Definetly for fans of their sound, this 4-piece album reminds us all not to take this shit too seriously, and just have fun.

Night Breed - The Theme/Bad Feeling on Frequency.
Next up on Andy C's sublabel comes the return of Night Breed with 2 very different tunes. 'The Theme' really does it for me, in a RAM style too. Great vocal sample, heavy drop, and tight production. Definetly give this record a listen.

Silent Witness & Break - Psychic Killer/Shadows on DNAudio.
New label from DJ Ron, don't worry we won't sue you Ronnie for stealing our store name for your label. After recording a few singles for No U-Turn, Silent Witness & Break help launch DNAudio with a bang! Solid tech-y shit from these guys.

Subwave - Dirty Dozen/The Visions on Tech Itch.
Ok, so if you remember the last single on this label, you should already have decided whether or not to read this review. If you thought that Tech Itch/Dylan tune 'Legend' wasn't hard enough, then maybe you'll be ready for this....otherwise....lock your doors and hide.

Crossfire - Darkstar/Stryker (Drumsound & Bassline Smith RMX) on Drop On Request.
Another very solid 2nd release from the still young DOR label. While the a-side 'Darkstar' does stick to the typical Crossfire formula, the formula still works, and it's hot. The b-side brings in Technique bad-boys, and they give 'Stryker' the bizness, deep bass, tight drums....another monster.

Digital - Gateman (Keaton RMX)/Get Loose on Phantom Audio LTD.
For those who like their bass on the dubby side. Keaton takes Gateman and makes it ROLL. Using a tight rolling break as only he can, Keaton actually improves on what's already considered a bomb. The flip is actually quite impressive original material from the dub master.

EZ-Rollers - Outtakes & Missing Breaks Vol.2 on Moving Shadow.
While this is annoying, I've got to give it to Rob Playford. He knows how to sell records. The awesome 'Dust' remix by Concord Dawn is on here....so is the long forgotten 'RS2000' remix from Filibuster. Now for the bad news, the 2nd disc contains downtempo tunes 'Lady Jam' and 'Take it EZ'.

Zinc - Faster LP on P Records.
There's only one d&b tune on here, but I thought I'd mention it anyway: the vocal mix of 'Hear No Evil'.

Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch - The Code/The Prophet on Defcom.
Wow...that's ruff.

Unknown Soldier - Wild/Eclipse on Invader.
The Unknown Soldier doesn't really work, as everybody already knows this is Floyd Dice in disguise. For fans of the the "new" jump-up sound.

Remarc - Sound Murderer LP on Planet-ì.
Ok, so if you're into this shit then you're already on your way down to the shop. If you havn't heard, all of Remarc's classic tunes have been liscenced and put together on this 3-peice essential jungle gem.

Amen Andrews - Vol.5 on Rephlex.
More ragga jungle experiments form the man known as Amen Andrews, AKA Luke Vibert AKA Wagon Christ AKA Plug. Mad props to Aphex Twin for putting this shit out on his label. Tracklisting: London/Thinrider/Guilty.

Believe it or not, there IS more stuff on the way...

Peace.

Sorry 'bout the delay, I had a little trip to Toronto so my online reviews got slowed down a little bit...but here they are in all their glory...woo hoo.

[DRUM & BASS]

EZ Rollers - Lickable Beats Part 1 on Intercom.
The first in a large series of records creating the mammoth Lickable Beats LP from the EZ boys starts off with a bang. The boys drop 'Crowd Rocker' and flip it with Tommy Knocker's 'Roule', nice hard funk for the dancefloor.

EZ Rollers - Lickable Beats Part 1 REMIX on Intercom.
Like I said...lots of tunes coming out of the Intercom camp right now. Here's the Distorted Minds remix of 'Crowd Rocker' (monster tune) and it's flipped with more original material from 60 Minute Man.

Infrared VS Gil Felix - Capoeira Part 1 on Infrared.
More and more often we are seeing double releases from big labels, i think it's crazy considering how broke we all are, but you can't deny these remixes are HOT. The first gives you the Original Mix and the Clipz Remix, both of which are tearing up dancefloors as you read this.

Infrared VS Gil Felix - Capoeira Part 2 on Infrared.
Next up from Infrared are MORE remixes....first up, the UK Vocal Mix of Capoeira as well as the much sought-after Marky & XRS Remix.

D Kay & Rawfull/Bulletproof - Shadow Play/Hardwired on Commercial Suicide.
If you've heard me play within the last 2 months then you've heard 'Shadow Play', usually as my last tune. As if this record couldn't get any better, Bulletproof KILL floors with Hardwired. Strictly for the hardcore.

Various - Sektor 5 on CIA.
First up is the mash-up madness, Generation Dub remixing Q-Project's classic 'Champion Sound', then on the flip comes Baron's 'Total Immortal'. The second disc brings us some new Total Science material with 'Prozac' and just when you thought it was over, D Kay & DJ Lee bring the best tune on the whole EP: Manipulate The Universe.

Future Sound Of London - Papa New Guinea (High Contrast RMX).
Step 1 : Turn off your computer.
Step 2 : Beg parents for 20 bucks.
Step 3 : Use $2.50 to take the metro/bus down to DNA.
Step 4 : Use what you have left to BUY THIS RECORD.
Step 5 : Enjoy.

3 Way - Appreciation/Price Of Fame on Full Cycle.
Not since the days of Dope Dragon have Roni Size, Krust & Die used their old pseudonym of 3 Way, but what a welcome return it is. 'Appreciation' has been circulating on dub for some time now...and must be heard in a club to fully feel the vibe.

DJ K - Kill Or Be Killed/Brace Yourself on Killa Records.
Ottawa's own DJ K drops his science on his own label...nice one!

Also, got back in the chopstick backstock, in case you missed it.

Peace!

More new stuff...

[DRUM & BASS]

Matrix & Fierce - Climate/Tightrope REMIXES on Metro.
Ok, time to freak out. Two wicked classics from Matrix's Metro label get re-touched, and who better to take on 'Climate' then the mighty Cause 4 Concern! Also, 'Tightrope' gets remixed by RAM scholar Red One.

Dusk Till Dawn - Cave Troll/Night Shift on Core.
Next up on core, after the rockin' Counter Strike single, comes Dusk Till Dawn, you might remember them from the bomb they dropped on L Plates last year. They are back with a vengeance on this one, hot hot hot.

A-Sides - Whirl/Everything on Levitated.
First release on this new label sees A-Sides take control and deliver a warm yet heavy tune. A very solid release from this veteran.

Just a reminder, the new additions from Friday last week are still availbable, so they will be added on to the end of this post.

[DRUM & BASS]

Dillinja - Fast Car/No Future on Valve.
The D's latest is already very well known on dubplate, the bass keeps risin' and the cheeky vocals don't stop. Flip it over for another hot single, only available on this cut.

DillinjaLemon D - Fast Car/Generation X RMX on Valve.
This limited edition picturedisc may seem identical to the last one, and it is, except for one thing, the massive Generation X remix from Lemon D. If you liked the original, you're going to love the new twist on the bassline.

DJ Spice - The Porn Track/Mischief on Back 2 Basics.
You've heard about it on the net, you've seen the hype, and now it's your chance to own the controversial tune that's turning heads.

Various - New Generation Part 2 on Infrared.
Finally in stock...features J Majik & Wickerman's 'New Badness', the Hazard RMX of 'Keep It Comin', Cookie Monsters 'The Clown', Wickerman's 'Gremlins' & 'Good Vibes' and Futurebound + Jaquan's 'Billy The Kid'. Keep it locked on this label, cuz 'Capoeira' is coming next week!

Dom VS Calyx - Pneumatix/See The Light on Moving Shadow.
Two very hard tunes from two very hard producers. Working together, these guys create the gut-wrenching 'Pneumatix' aka the Sledgehammer. Must be heard to be believed.

Crimescene Unit - Flatline/Loxy, Ink, Keaton & J Dub RMX on Crimescene.
New US label means new US artists, not bad for s first release. Features some top notch remix action from the Architex crew along with Keaton of Usual Suspects/Universal Project.

Various - Transmission One EP on Invaderz Transmissions.
Just peep the tracklisting:
Invaderz - The Beats (Total Science RMX)
Kontrol & OB1 - Unheard Truths
Invaderz - All About Love (Spirit RMX)
Invaderz - Kickstart

Zinc - People 4/Hear No Evil on P.
First single from the new Zinc LP drops and it's a mellow roller. Instrumental versions all the way...

Clipz - Pipe Dreams/Rodeo Ride on No Logo.
This man simply does not stop. More new bristol-styled material from the new kid on the block.

The Dragon - The Orange Dragon/White Poison RMX on Poison.
I'm getting tired of writing reviews...so tough shit.

Mykra - Eardrummer/Mushrooms 97 on Fokuz.

Lemar - Dance With You/DNA Remix on GMM.

Suply & Demand Shizzle/Life On The Streets on Chronic.

Adam Freeland - We Want Your Soul (Ed Rush & Optical RMX) on MP.
Wow. That's all i can say, for those of you who were lcuky enough to grab the promos we had for sale a month ago, you alreadt know what's up. For those who have yet to hear this record, come down to the store and find out what pure joy sounds like.

Various - Remix EP on DSCI4.
I'm not going to talk about this release...I'm just going to say what's on it:
Chris Su - Astrosine (Ill.Skillz RMX)
STA & Paul B (Ill.Skillz RMX)
Ill.Skillz - Cranium (Chris Su RMX)
Trace - Mutant Closure Pt1 (Ill.Skillz RMX)

Skynet - Logans Run/Daytona on Skynet.
Finally, the 2nd release is here. Skynet shows his technical ability as a solo artist once again with 2 HEAVY bassline numbers that are sure to rock the floor. Very impressive, thick tunes.

[BREAKS]

A.Skills & Krafty Kuts - Gimme The Breaks feat. Kurtis Blow/Trickatechnology feat. TC Izlam on Finger Lickin' Funk.

Koma + Bones - Shutterspeed LP on TCR.

Andrea Doria - Bucci Bag (Breaks RMX).

Kananga - Oh Yeah (Breaks RMX).
Remix of the classic tune by Yello.

Ok so there might be more new stuff on friday....not sure yet.

As promised, it's going to be another one of those "crazy" weeks with lots of "crazy" titles, and of course, that can only mean that we are getting 2 shipments this week.

[DRUM & BASS]

Fresh - Dead Man Walking/Formula One on Valve.
The man behind Bad Company comes to Dillinja & Lemon D's label to shake things up a bit. Holy Shit, just when I thought the a-side was the sickest tune, I checked the flip. Formula One has all the trademark Fresh sounds while keeping in a Valve stylee....buy on sight.

Dynamite MC & Origin Unknown - Hotness/Roni Size RMX on RAM.
After leaving Talikin' Loud for greener pastures, Dynamite's LP has been ready to drop for some time. This being the first cut from that album, has been highly anticipated. If you havn't heard me droppin' the Roni Size mix lately, you don't know what you've been missing. Think about it...Andy C, Ant Miles, Dynamite AND Roni Size. Get it.

CydeFX - Timescape/More Than One on Nu Electro.
John B's electro influences have come to life in his new Beta Recordings sub-label, Nu Electro. After launching it with a double-pack of his own creations earlier this year, John steps aside for newcomers CydeFX. If you like your d&b trancey and emotional, then this is the shit for you. If not, then run [ away...ru ] far far away.

Various - Paranoia EP on Renegade Hardware.
Just when you thought all hope was lost for the RH crew. They make something like this.....and completely redeem themselves! I won't brag...I'll let the tracklisting speak for itself:
The Militia - Paranoia (Stakka, K-Tee, Friction & Nu-Balance)
B Key - Final Conflict
Pendulum - Trail Of Sevens (It's fucking PENDULUM!)
Keaton - Influence
Concord Dawn - Raining Blood (AKA The SLAYER Tune!)
Ink - Ghost Ship

Sean Paul - Gimme Da Light (Chopstick Bloodclat Mix) on Big-Up Records.
Jack Beetz & R-Cola are back once again, this time taking on the already classic Sean Paul. I can't explain the ragga-madness contained on this record so you're going to have to come down and hear it for yourself.

[CRAZY VIRUS RESTOCK]

Ed Rush & Optical - The Original Dr.Shade on Virus.
Finally back in stock after a long wait!

Ed Rush & Optical - Kerbcrawler/Capsule on Virus.
The most essential Virus record ever.

Various - Twisted EP on Virus.
What's that? you never got this little ditty from back in '99? That's too bad, check the tracklisting:
Optical & Rymetyme - Twisted
Optical & Rymetyme - Ghostbuster
Bad Company - Seizure
Bad Company - Skin Tag

Ed Rush & Optical - The Medecine/Punchbag on Virus.
This is the first release on Virus and if you don't have it then you suck. Don't suck.

[BREAKS]

Klaus 'Heavyweight' Hill - Techno Tune/The Popstar on Mob.

Unkle - Eye For An Eye (Meat Katie Remixes) on Island.
Contains Meat Katie's Twisted In The Globe Mix and Meat Katie's E Type dub.

Various - Heavy Weight Breaks Vol.2 on Supercharged.
A: Freestylers VS Million Dan - No Replica (Aquasky VS Masterblaster RMX)
B: DJ Quest & IC3 - Floor Basher (DJ Mutiny & Uncouth Youth RMX)
C: Deep Impact - I Love Music
D: Face Off - Soundboy

Various Artists - House Camp EP on Donkey Head.
Featuring:
Julio Posadas
Dave Most
Carlos Duran (Christian Varela RMX)

Various Artists - Omegaritam Vol.1 on Omegaritam.
Brand new label from parts unknown, with tons of big talent:
Bryan Zentz - Heated
Aaron Nesbit - Under Experienced
Tim Taylor & Thor 54 - Pleasure Boyz

The Advent - Bits And Pieces EP on Kombination Research.
I love how the techno scene makes the most of one 12" by squeezing in 3 tracks...

Unknown - PGV 32 on Pounding Grooves.
As usual, there's no info on these freakin' records.

Athos 1 - Reset Controllers EP on Primevil.
I was about to give up on firguring out this record, and then I read the fine print. Executive Producers: Mauro Picotto & Riccardo Ferri, the same boys behind the HUGE 'Alchemist EP' on Primate. HOT.

Various - Radio Caroline Vol.1 Sampler on Mental Groove.
Normally I wouldn't put this in with techno, but Miss Kitten's mixes always have a little techno thrown in for good measure. It's basically here because of Autechre's 'Flutter' from the Anti EP they released on Warp in '94. What a wicked tune.

ok 'nuff techno?

Not alot of tunes this week, on account of the fact that next week is going to be massive. Not that this week's tunes aren't any good, they kick ass, it's just there's not too much....

[DRUM & BASS]

Noisia - Silicon/Tomahawk (feat. Mayhem) on Nerve.
Wicked! After the success of the Ternary series, Paul Reset gets his label into high gear with the newest sensation in d&b, taking over the globe, Noisia already have tunes forthcoming on Blindside, Habit & Shadow Law. This release was bumped up due to the fact that it rules! If you are down with the Nerve sound, and you wish MATRIX made mroe tunes....check this out.

Black Sun Empire/Eye-D - Skin Deep (Eye-D RMX)/Unicorn MF (BSE RMX) on Citrus.
I know....that's really confusing to read. It's ok, that's why I'm here! Basically, the label that gave Black Sun Empire their start, finally gets some payback: one HOT remix. While the Netherland crew take on an Eye-D track, Eye-D takes on one of BSE's tunes for the flip. All I have to say is.....you better like it ruff.

Blue Skin - Warrior Funk LP on Cubik.
Special K & D'cruz finally come through with what they promised, an entire album dedicated to their Blue Skin project. Many thanks to Peshay for believing in these guys enough to put out all their tunes on his own label. Hot disco funkka that keeps it fresh for the whole LP!

Unknown - August - Formation.
Once again coming through with the Monthly series, we still have no idea who's making what tracks but I am assured that in December, all will be revealed.

[BREAKS]

Adam Freeland - We Want Your Soul on Maximise Profit.
This is it. Come and get it. WARNING: Does NOT contain the Ed Rush & Optical Remix, that's next week. What it does contain is an Acapella & Lock Grooves for your DJing pleasure.

Koma & Bones- Black Satsuma/Basic Emotion on TCR.
From the forthcoming album 'Shutterspeed'.

General Midi VS Eric B & Rakim - I Know You Got Soul.
Not to be confused with the Freeland record. This one is one-sided and ESSENTIAL.

Force Mass Motion VS Dylan Rhymes - Original Masters 2 LP Sampler on Acetate.
Ok here are the tunes:
A1. Force Mass Motion VS Dylan Rhymes - Crunchy Stylus
A2.Afrika Bambaataa - Funky Heroes (Kafty's Zulu Funk RMX)
B1.Altitude - Nightstalker (Meat Katie RMX)
Had enough?

peace....

Cursed Black Cat: you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about...and you're a hypocrite. I have to deal with people talking bullshit about me EVERY DAY, as if other people know who I'm sleeping with and I don't. Dispelling rumors is not an easy task when numerous people are spreading them twice as fast. And now I've got you, asking for my Bar Mitzvah services? You think you're funny? You're an idiot. You tell me to keep my feelings quiet, meanwhile you're insulting me because of my RELIGION in another thread. I don't know who you are and I don't care, but I think YOU are the one who should keep her mouth shut.
