WOW.. what an awsome party. I had such a blast for the time i was there. The deco was insane as Neil never fails in that departement. I really like the setup with all the curtains around the entire place. That must have taken SOOOOOO much damn time and energy to put together, not to mention the time to take them down too.. The music was awsome as well as i was there for KODE SIX !! I have to admit that you both have ton's of talent and your music will definatly get past montreal !!! There was this one track that was "Supah-total Killa style from the hood with an AX!" (no, that doesn't mean anything besides AWSOME).. i think i was near the end and it was total chaos and mayhem !! Those who know me know i don't like the dark stuff, but god damn i don't think my legs hurt this much in years after there set !! i was dancing more and more and MOOOOREE !!! In general, i had more than a blast. The only small thing i noticed was that the sound was really loud and fuzzy .. But that's just my preferances i guess !

and i dunno about the whole "dj's should promote and bring 3x what they are getting paid thingy" .. I mean, its normal for a DJ to promote himself and by doing so it builds public interest. Its also normal to tell your friends about your upcoming gigs too but it should not be expected by the promotor for them to do so.

I think that Dj's are booked to "ensure" quality music, but a single DJ alone will not fill-up a venue if he is not well surrounded. Its hard to convince your friend to come to a party to hear 60 minutes of a set that he wants to hear.. BUT if the dj up next has a "common" friend, maybe it will be easyer for one of us to convince that friend to come after all.

I don't think ANY dj alone can bring in the people without the promotor who creates the hype for the party. That's why his title is "promotor" and not "Dj" .. A Dj has to worry about getting his set organised and performing a kickass set FOR THE PEOPLE WHO COME to the party.

First off, it wasn't my party.. i pay all my dj's when i throw an event. you can ask them yourself if you want.

secondly, as i said, i have over 8000$'s of music that i've thrown back into the Authenticy and art of the music. I have not EVER played more than maybe 1 track that i downloaded IN MY LIFE !!! i have a wall of CD cases to prouve it if you don't believe me.

And no one is trying to stop you from anything man. If anything, you have my total suport.

And no, i don't want to teach you how to scratch, i want you to watch a video showing you that YOU CAN (and not you, but in general) scratch with CDJ's. And i only want to show you this because you were talking trash about Dj's who play on CDJ's because they don't scratch and blablabla !!

Hummm, very interesting thread i must admit.. But i dunno, i don't really agree with the mass of you on this one.. i think its different for every one !!

When i started buying music (i must have been about 14 years old) i wasn't a Dj. I had all the newest Pearl Jam albums, some Metallica, and with time, Rage Against the Machine and some death metal. I bought the music because i liked to listen to the music. That is the problem with DJ's today.. they just buy the music to play it out it seems (judging by the comments in this thread).

When i first stepped up to the electronic music scene, my #1 goal was not to become a DJ, but it was to discover new music. At first, i downloaded everything i could find, racking up like 30 gigs of mp3's. I had all the newest albums at my disposition. As time went on, i discovered Dj'ing and quickly got hooked because it was my way of sharing the music that i fell in love with.

Luckly, my "teachers" taught me that it was important to not play all those mp'3 that i had and to start buying the music if i was to become a DJ and i had no problem with that because anyways i always bought music.

When i first started out as a DJ, there was no way in hell anyone was going to pay me and i didn't even think about money because it was more than my pleasure to spread the music anyway i could to people that might not have had the chance to discover. I played and played, freely, for the longest of time, without even thinking about getting paid. That might be because psytrance creates a very friendly environement and i felt bad asking a friend of mine (who just so happend to be throwing the party) for money after seeing that he didn't make any money.

Today, things are different and i don't really have to run after gigs anymore.. people want to book me it seems and my personal free time to do gigs has decreased dramatically, therefor sometimes i might see a gig as an inconvinience (especially if its at 6 in the morning). Therefor, if you absolutly want me to go out of my way to make the party and promote it, i ask a small fee.. I still buy all my music, be it from beatport or saikosounds and even if i would not get gigs i would still be investing in the music i love.

I guess its all about intent and what drives a person to do the things that they do.
