Yeah, its a forum.. built for PERSONAL OPINIONS !!

anyways, the best example i can think off is TERRA 4.. there was no deco, no lighting, normal sound setup, good dj's, tons of people in a good location.

the fact that the sound, deco or lighting were omnipresent doesn't change the fact that the party was great and everyone was having fun.. great sound doesn't make a crappy party better ; it makes a good party great.. deco is the same deal.. it will not make the biggest difference but it will add an "extra" !!

things do not always have to be so technical when taking opinions into consideration.

i dunno, when i write a party review, i will comment on the setup's but that's not what will influence my "WOW, what a party" from "ouff, it was boring as fuck" !! and if it does, it will be the "why's" that will be important..

shit, if throwing a good party was only about having a proper setup it would be SOOOO much easier !! :p

what i find funny is, that when people act like (or really are) professional Djs', thay they might come out as being "cocky" or "i'm the best in the world because i know my shit better than that wannabe dj".. you see where i am going ?

Bliss : i don't really agree with your definition at all, as i am sure that many good dj's don't think of mixing as "work" and play for the fun of it or because the music drives them !!

my only problem with this thread is that there are too many generalisations and judgements made.. every case is different..

i don't like bad Dj's.. they can be rich, poor, real, wannabee's... whatever. they don't belong on stage !! i don't believe that all bad dj's are wannabee's.. I think you are confusing "experiance" with "professional" in your comparisons Bliss !! :)

I remember a few years back, EVERYONE wanted to be a DJ...with disastrous results. Raves were - and still are - flooded with a ton of wannabe DJs with zero experience and lots of cash so next thing you know, they have a full setup in their parent's basement ( sorry but REAL DJs use THEIR money to buy equipment ) and a month later, expected to be booked in all parties, which they were since the parties were done by wannabe promoters.

Unfortunately, that left raves with about 20% of ACTUAL DJs who knew what the fuck they were doing behind the decks.

Now, replace the word " DJ " with " PROMOTER " in the above text and ironically eniough, you've got today's party-throwing situation.

WOW.. i am 100% convinced that you have no idea, whatsoever, of what you are talking about..

promotors who have rich parents ?? and who use there rich parents money to throw disorganised parties ?? man, i am confused..

the same goes with your example of Djs'...

please, explain what a wannabe Dj is.. how he acts differently and what are the major differences from a regular dj and a wannabe Dj.. please..

Those comments are incredibly über-retarded. Can anyone tell me where, in the above phrase in brackets, you see a review of the PARTY itself ??? I'm glad your friends are fun and you like the place but would it be possible to REVIEW the event properly ? Like, what did you think of the SOUND, LIGHTING, DECO, STAFF, SECURITY, ETC ?

It's as stupid as asking someone if they liked the Iron Man movie and get this answer : " dude, we went to see that with Phil, Dave and J-P and Dave made a shitload of awesome jokes ! Man that guy is funny. Oh and that theater's seats are super-comfy. And it's right next to a metro station ! "

See where I'm getting at ?

stop being so materialistic and snobby..

GOLD ?? WTF ...

seriously, like, i went to this party that had solid dj's and 10katrillion watts of sound.. it was is Terrebonne and none of my friends were there.. but dood, the deco was awesome and the sound made me deff for the next 12 days after the party.. Also, you should have seen the cute security guards.. they hardly touched me too so getting in my stach was a breeze. There was also lots of staff members looking very busy all night long so the party HAS to have been good.......

is that what you call a SOLID party review..?? who the FUCK cares about all this stuff ??

shit man, location and the people are more than 50% of a fun party.. if people can't express there fun with friends in a review section then all we really need is 1 person to write a review explaining all the "specs" of the party.. lets not take into consideration how many hours it took to get to the party nor the amount of people.. no no, that would not be a proper review.

sheesh..

sorry for the outbusrt, but you people have weird views on what a party should be....

i mean, last year, Rewire won 8th best rave of the year.. i didn't even fucken vote nor did i encourage anyone to vote !! hell, people told ME that rewire's name was mentionned...

I am glad you guys liked Rewire.. hehehe !!

i guess you guys are right in a way also. i can understand you guys are pissed for paying a certain amount with certain expectations. I guess its all about expectations in the end because if we didn't have any, we wouldn't be disapointed.. its not always as easy as saying "ohh, the party is 20$'s at the door so there should be at least a decent setup" ..

getting back to Ravedave's example... for Rewire, i can expect at least 400 people per event, therefor, i know that @ 20$'s a pop i'll generate about 8000$'s to pay for stuff so i have more $$ to invest into deceent sound, a proper venue and lights/deco..

for smaller parties, they end up charging the same because, well, they know that, in the best of cases, there will only be 200 people. its not the same budget even though the ticket prices are the same !!

:)
