Magazoo was awesome when it was Lise and Hector running the place.. I dont know how it is now but it took a massive dive when Hector died and Lise gave it to her daughter Angele and Martin took over... that guy used to run a depanneur and knew fuck all about reptiles. Pissed me off to the point where I stopped going. Their animals were a bit better quality generally compared to the competition .. but thats only cuz they didnt import and hand picked from distributors instead. Reptile Amazone is the place to go for reptiles, but with their broad selection of imports you really gotta know what to look for when purchasing.

African Pixie frogs.. used to sell em at the shop I worked at.. In the wild they estivate for most of the year (roughly 8 months) in a mucous pouch buried in dry mud.. during the rainy season they all come out and their main diet during that time is eachother.. 95% cannibals. They can consume anything just slightly smaller than themselves. Fun getting a shipment of 25 frogs and theres only 17 (slightly fatter than expected) left in the box upon arrival ;) ... amazing creatures.

I like being in control of how a tracks sounds in the end.. but sometimes I really wish techno labels had proper sound engineers so that once a great ideas have come together to form a would be killer tune.. someone else could take over and polish it properly to the labels standards. I think it really sucks that in this feild were expected to do everything and be everything.. Every label Ive encountered has different standards and I spend more time mixing and remixing tunes than writing them... most of the time I have tracks refused its because the mix isnt up to par for that specific label..its as If the actual ideas don't even matter anymore.

Is there a *free* way to prevent ableton from "calling home" when I work and I want to be online otherwise? if so ..detailed instructions would be really appreciated as I'm no ubergeek.

well.. He speaks from a knowing and anticipating point of view.. too many expectations. 99% of the crowd don't know the tracks and its mainly the word "CAN'T" in the opening that got me, as if its definitive. If he wants to hear almost full tracks along with all their precicous peaks and buildups... he should listen to them on his I pod. No one said you had to start a mix by cuing at the beginning of the track and letting it build up and no one said mixes must last long. He speaks as if theres rules to mixing and I think its bullshit. If you were to spend more time properly selecting tracks I'm sure you'd find ultra fast and ultra tight ways of putting them together. I'm sure theres a way to throw 70 tracks into a 1 hr mix and have it come out completely crazy good.. buildups and all. The only reason people wouldn't be able to "get into it properly" is because the dj sucks...and thats the real issue here. period.

I was a partyer long before I was a DJ and I mix the way I want to hear others mix when I'm dancing. Psytrance has a vibe to it unlike some other styles, the bass and kick and percussions are all saying something to your mind to make you dance, feeling the power of the bass making your insides vibrate is half the experience for me, it just feels good.
I suppose if you did a LOT of work before your set identifying a 3 minute or so 'peak' of each track, you could maximize the number of tracks in your set, but this isn't hip hop or breaks that typically have songs that are only 3-5 minutes to begin with. It's a characteristic of the style that stipulates a better set when you let a good song play out. Most people who go to psy parties know their music as well and I can tell you right now that the worst thing that can happen is hearing your song come in only for the DJ to mix into another song before the best part, it's damn near insulting. It's the equivalent of cutting out a rap song in the middle of a verse. It's like, the word never gets it's rhyme; it would be unfulfilling to mix psytrance that way.

I think your way off on this call but I just woke up and dont feel like destroying you just yet... Ill be back.

apparantly the synch problem is fixed in the new upgrade...

back on topic: ..if you google it theres a million people saying different things. I never really got into logic but Ive worked with people on it that have used it for years'n'years and my only conclusion is what he accomplished technically in 1 hour would have taken me roughly 10 minutes in ableton. There might be more options in logic aswell as better onboard niknaks...but you really hafta ask yourself if its worth it for what you want to do. For me personally it just overcomplicated the process to the point of exhaustion and I found it anything but Logical.
