Mr. Alex! I had no idea you were a cigar afficionado! ;) Just looking at who is on the flyer and who will be attending, this party is going to be the Future of MTL Music. I want to save the images and flyers of this party and we'll look back at who's done what when Dan has his Welcome Home party (of course there's going to be one) in a couple years. That'd be sick!

As it looks, in order to be eligible to attend UK514 u have to be in school, because there is going to be an alliance with a few schools like Uni of MTL, UQAM, Polytechnique, and the Ministry of Education they'd like to promote schools and communities working together, and to promote higher education to students.
To be honest, speaking as the director of this thing, I'd prefer to fill this thing with warm and enthusiastic bodies who will have a good time with this and hype the vibe in the class.
We're going to launch in schools this week and see how enrolement goes.

It's pretty brilliant. I always wondered what it would be like if you took the premises of Seinfeld and planted it in the 'real' world. Cuz people won't react the way they do in a sitcom. It's priceless when Larry calls that guy a cunt during poker!!

I got drum machines and can program some sick licks, the guitars can be strictly in lieu of sampling some guitar, and we can try a few MCs and see how they vibe. Worse case scenario: We meet up and chill with some choons and have some buds and suds. I'm game, any given Sunday!!

Ok, so I'm thinking about regional sounds. Detroit Techno. West Coast, East Coast, and Dirrty South Hip Hop. German Hardcore. Goa Trance. Etc...
And it occurs to me that Montreal needs a sound of its own and not house music cuz that's exploited, mundane, and ubiquitous around this planet.
I would personally like to form a live act that blends live, crunchy punk guitar, electronic DnB and Breakbeats, a DMC, and a Dancehall MC.
Any ideas on how we can build a unique and exportable sound to call our own?

Too early, I'm retarded. Then I gotta bounce back with Dex or Rit. Then I'm too wired, so I hit the brakes with a 40. Then I'm mashed so I bust out a bit of E and speed to level the playing field (so to speak) but that's usually it. Unless it's a weekend. Then all bets are off.

I'm playing with the idea of making it 24 CEGEP/Uni, 24 Sec 3-5 depending on how many we get. I'll def. put you on the first to know list!

Sorry for the delays...no internet just yet pour moi and a shitload of work. I'm in touch with the SAT and waiting for their new website to go online [ www.sat.qc.ca ] which will piggy back the uk514 site. Applications will be available online. There are 60 spaces open in the general, "try everything" class (12 Sec 1-2, 36 Sec 3-5, and 12 CEGEP/Uni). There are also 24 spots in the specific program (12 turntablist, 12 producers). As it stands, you need to be attending school at one of those levels to be eligible for UK514.
The staff will be an all-star line up from the Montreal underground scene. I'm still interviewing candidates but we should have the staff finalized by next week (and the site should be up then too). So far, expect APrime, Galaksy, Flek, Mana, Steve Lalla, Sean Kosa, Scotty P, Subtone, Oliver Twisted, and Mayday to be working on our first session.
Per hour value will be ridiculously low for this pilot project. 5 weeks (35 hrs) looks like it'll run $300 (+tx) for the general and $350(+tx) for the specific. That includes the instruction, a digital yearbook (with pics, vid clips, top tracks, as well as your personal scrapbook of sonic experiments), discounts on equipment, and a uk514 wrist band from PNB Nation that will get you into future UK514 events for free and other goodies.
I'm gonna post a big huge message on ravewave with all the details when shits ready.

We`re starting a new program to be offered at the SAT on ST.Laurent. There`s spaces for people between Sec 1 - University age and you can choose to try out mixing, turntablism, production, even a little graff and breakin. Or you can do one of those subjects exclusively. It`s taught by local heavies in the scene (Galaksy, Mana, APrime, RCola, Punnani B, and Sarcastic are a few of the peeps working on it with me). For our pilot program we`re offering 5 weeks for about $300 depending on the program. It`ll be off the siiiick! It`s called Urban Knowledge 514 and it`s starting June 13th. I can fill you in with more 411 if you like!

cnn is international journalism at it's finest. it's unbiased, impartial, AND neutral on all the stories it presents. ON top of that it never takes sides. cnn never goes in for sensationalist journalism. Not like those "godless vermin at Al Jazeera" as Paula Zahn put it so eloquently. For my money, it doesn't get any better than having Aaron Brown break the news on the world's most recent calamity or what I should fear next.

THere's a morbid fascination inherent to our species. Burden of consciousness. We're probably one of the few species that can intellectualize our own mortality and since nobody has ever gotten back to us about what happens after death, it's fundamentally interesting. Suffering is the scale on which we explore our morbid fascination and Jackass and Bum Hunter only push the envelope closer to snuff films.
The Greeks had the Olympics for peace within the Hellenic states which were fighting over pretty much everything and the Romans weren't really invited. The Romans had their Gladiators to feed their morbidity. All we have is CNN. At least the Romans were honest about their bloodlust.
Here's a thought: Would you watch a televised execution?

No wonder they think pot and booze aren't hard enough! You NEED meth to get numb that kind of boredom! At the same time, in a planet as dull a Ot-touine I met people who recognized this and were some of the best people I've met anywhere on earth.

Toronto has no soul. The people there are uninsightful, dress entirely from the GAP, prentend they're New York City and deny it violently, and they've contributed Sean Desmond to the music scene. I hope Toronto has a more productive SARS outbreak to trim the fat, so to speak. I also hate the fact that the Leafs are doing so damn well.

Women have had control since day 1. Any notion to the contrary is because they made your simple Y-Chromosome-impaired mind think so. Adam n Eve, Samson n Delilah, Mark Anthony and Cleopatra, Macbeth and Lady MacB, Napoleon and Josephine, Bill and Hillary...literature and history seem to suggest that civilization has traditionally been run by the fairer sex and no amount of gorilla-chest-beating will change that. The right to vote is probably the least significant right they've been given. Arabs will be the most fucked cuz the harder you oppress, the stronger the revolution...and their women iz well smart.
Like the Matrix, it is the illusion of choice created by those with power for those without. I don't care how much we can bench, it matters not.

Until one of the sexes figures out a way to purely self-replicate, we're going to need eachother, even if we involve a technological pollenation technique like in vitro.
If we require each other on such a fundamental level, is it so hard to imagine we'd complement each other out of neccessity in higher functions?
I won't make generalizations, but here are some facts: There are more women in education and pediatrics. There are more men in technology and surgery. For some reason, whether it's evolution or gender-based oppression, the genders have dominated certain careers despite the freedom to choose their vocation for 40 years or so. Feel free to interpret. I'm sure there's a couple sociological papers on it somewhere.
Here's some thoughts I'm sure you've had:
- All-female society: Utopian Paradise or Perpetual Hot Lesbian Action? Is there a difference? Discuss.
- Female President/Leader of Free World: Off to war every month? I think Oprah would be a good candidate as she could probably get the Israelis and Arabs to have a summit potluck dinner with cross-cultural decorating tips at John Travolta's house and she'd probably have all kinds of free giveaways at major holidays. If Oprah gets menstrual, she sure doesn't show it.
I think women have complicated minds which operate to notice the details, while men's minds operate more directly to see the global picture. Women can't fathom that men's minds operate on such a simple level, and men just plain can't understand women.

I don't count the times I've grinded shit or backed into shit. And I've broken a windsheild and dented a few hoods cuz cars hit me now and then, but only once on purpose. So don't stand too close to me cuz while God isn't trying to kill me, He's certainly bitchslapping me a bit.
