you couldn't have a thread like that because times change and styles change. New Equipment comes out every month so the guideline would have to be updated often... besides I am a producer and will become a DJ when I start jockeying discs... I don't need to ask how, all I need is the right tools. Provided by TwinStorm thusfar.

Meh... I say it goes a little more than just that.

I had no clue you were around for 8 years... so I guess that changes a few things now doesn't it?! hmmm okay forget my second statement, it was obviously a sentence I started writting and forgot to delete it. So yeah... I said what needed to be said. Good luck!

(i apologize for this reply post frenzy)

of course a music collection has to be used properly. I refer more to the quality of my best tracks(in my collection) rather than the size of the collection itself. I know a good song when I hear one and I think I could be an awesome selector :)

again though I appreciate your input, thanx!!

anyway... the pro's use pioneer cdj-1000's (there is also the cdj-800 if yer on a budget) cuz they are simply the fuckin' bomb.

but they cost about 3 times as much as the 100's and 200's.

i'm also under the impression that pioneer is about to upgrade thier line to read more formats than just cda.

so ya might wanna wait a few months if yer buying new?

and oh yeah....

if you decide to become some sort of phycadelic trance dj you might wanna reconsider cuz its super gay and the only pussy those guys get are smelly bohemians with hairy armpits.

What's more important.. octaves? Knobs? sliders? Is it for DJ'ing or production or both?

If you just want an answer out of my ass though I'd say the alesis photon25X is a good option... It has rotary controllers, a fancy xyz mod controller, good keys, and is portable.. and has a soundcard built in (although it is not that great)... Oliver got one and it's a good bang for your buck device.

awesome! thanx

Well some people will think different, but this is my personal opinion. But ull save a few bucks to with the 100s, however im not sure how current djm300 mixers are these days... good luck, greg

thank you DJ Horizon! seems like the CDJ 100's are the obvious choice.

Does anyone recommend against buying used CDJ's?

I am in no way arrogant or 'setting myself up' for disapointment. It may be hard for others to be believe, but once I get ahold of the equipment I need, I am fairly confident I will blow away the competition. Don't take this as a challenge or as me saying I am better than anyone else though.
The main strength a DJ has is in his collection of music, and I have by far the most complete collection when it comes to full on psy (I have access to albums that will be released in June). No one knows it yet, but I'll be one hell of a psy ambassador soon.
Besides, I've been living, eating and breathing psy for 8 years, which is more than most dj's can claim. I may not end up being the best, but I promise I will surpass any DJ who doesn't have his full heart in it.

Pioneer CDJ-100s and 200 models for sure... I won't recommend any specific models cause that's a whole other discussion and the point of view on the matter is subject to the person holding it. Try to check for used ones.

-Is buying CDJ's a mistake from any perspective?

Psy music? At all. It's not like you have any other realistic options available for ya.

I don't understand 'Psy Music? At all.' What do you mean by this? Do you mean to say it's 'not at all a mistake from the psy music perspective'? or 'all perspectives are a mistake'? Please clarify :)

I don't recommend it. Wait and see if you wanna keep going. Get your basic stock for now and if you wanna push further (and have the financials for it)than by all means go ahead... then. I have to mention that DJing isn't a cheap hobby.

Hope this helped a bit.

I've been at it for 8 years now, I think i'll keep going :) In fact I KNOW i'll keep going. Raves account for one of the main reasons I enjoy this thing we call life. And I've been to too many parties where mediocre DJ's get paid and I have to pay. It's time to shake the scene up with some truly skilled competition (wishful thinking? you be the judge!)

Maybe I will crash and fall but If I go down, I'm taking you with me! I mean, if I go down, i might as well go down hard. Not all investments are worthwhile, but I'm ready.
I appreciate your post though! i will check out those mixers and likely make a decision and buy em next week. Thank you!

Dear RaveWaveRs,
This message goes out to all my hommies and... no wait. This message goes out to any DJ, producer or electronic wizards.

I recently came into some decent investment money. My first goal is to start DJing at psy parties by simply being (among) the best, I assume I need some CDJ's if I want to learn properly and start recording sets. Here's where I need advice:
firstly, what CDJ's do I buy?
-What CDJ's are great quality, fully featured and priced reasonably?
-Is buying CDJ's a mistake from any perspective?
-Should I be investing in hardware synths, drum machines or something else instead?

I always see CDJ's already at parties, and I don't want to buy 700$ CDJ's if I am never going to use them. Resell price must be a consideration due to that.

I also want to buy a midi device, so a keyboard I guess.
-Any suggestions here?
-What about brands? Models? Necessary features?

I appreciate any advice anyone may have to offer! Thank you very much for considering my request and hope to play your favorite song at a party soon ;)

peace
