with all due respect, I just can't agree with that spiritual gobledeegook... there's absolutely nothing natural about giant speakers, psytrance and staying up all night. Also if it's raining outside, I'm not going to play a different track than if it's clear skies... the people at the party and my time slot might influence what I play, little else will. I'll just play my favorite tracks and the moon doesn't have a tendency to change my taste.

too many people have so many different opinions and perspectives about psytrance and parties and how it's 'supposed to be'. I'm sorry but I find it kind of arrogant of you, Anne, to talk about these things as if they are the single 'truth' of psytrance. When you define a 'good' dj and a 'good' party, it's just your opinion.
I'm not saying I disagree with everything you say, but you're really assuming a lot and some of it is way off base in my experience.

A good party, I think, is when you get the influential people from a scene to come together and organize something their way. For me it means great sound, both gear and selection and mixing, great art, to soothe the eyes and mind and proper amenities.
You can't ignore any one aspect of the party, whether it be the spiritual side, the musical side or, and let's be frank, the rave side.
tries to bring all that together... I may not have booked your favorite DJ but I think that all around I'm bringing some solid people together to throw a really fun and well balanced party.... we got some mininal groovy tech to start, then full on during the main hours, and groovy Rikam for the morning... there are only so many hours in a night after all so the real universal key is to try and stay positive and keep your mind open to new, old and weird experiences.

just one more thing, you mention that full on is like a movie you know the ending to... Have you ever seen a movie twice Anne? there IS such thing as favorites, and some people love to experience them over and over again... Now imagine if your favorite movie suddenly came out with slightly different beginnings and endings and new scenes in between... I think that's a more apt description of full on. sure we follow a mould, because if we weren't we'd be scaring all the people who like us for 'us' away.

You know it's totally cool to try radically new things, just don't do it when you're not the only one in for the ride.

again, no disrespect to anyone intended... just voicing my opinion as you do yours :)

again, why do you want to do this. You can't be asking "which bus do I take to get to school?" the real question is "how can I get to school?" so what your real question?
if you simply want to know what devices transfer what, then I can assure you that there's no sane way of achieving that. But I am assuming you want this information for a reason, so maybe if you share the reason, we can share a solution.
bandwidth measuring is a lot more complicated than you might imagine... for example, you desktop machines probably receive and discard tons of data, your router will too...

anyway doesn't the iphone calculate incoming data in it's settings?

@Cutterhead: anyone who doesn't know how to achieve this sort of thing , the only kind of person who would ask in the first place, is most definitely NOT looking for open source or otherwise tools that they need to configure and understand... you can't shoot package names at them and scoff when they tell you that's not a proper answer...

What i need to do is find a way of monitoring how much bandwith each device uses over X amount of time.
What is the easiest way to do this??

can't be done in any reasonable way... your router doesn't necessarily even know which device is communicating with the WAN at any given time unless every port is specifically mapped and even then they all utilize port 80 at some time or another.
In order to try and get a solution set up for you, why do you need to do this in the first place?

yep. And maybe that's why I dislike serato... cause when I see someone up their on a laptop, I KNOW he's not just playing mp3s, ugh.
It's funny actually, you JUST made me realize why even though DJing is pretty simple, people don't just let DJs play out a premixed CD. I suppose there's some sous-entendu right of passage that says that if you're not going to take the time and energy to learn how to mix properly, then you're obviously not 'into it' enough and you probably shouldn't be up there in the first place. When something comes too easily, people don't take it seriously and even though we're talking about raves, the music aspect is like the only thing keeping people dancing, or not, so it's important in that sense.

E does that yeah... Speed will do both, meaning that they'll be watching the DJ and tranced up, but so much less open to mistakes... acid, shrooms, psychedelics make people blind, they prolly won't know the difference between the VJ or DJ or their left from right hands.
alcohol makes people 'cool' so they'll just be judgin'... positively if they like you and negatively if they don't or need another drink...

respect for you too bro.. I think psytrance is just too complicated and fast to be played live in any true sense so instead of faking it, we admit it and just gr00ve :)
keep in mindi'm not proud of my inability or unwillingness to perform Live.... it's just that my 'skills' lie in the creation of the music, not the performance of it. I can't be everything to everyone you know so Imma be honest with chyall and jus display the work I did do...

there for example, the patterns are so simple that I could trigger them, but it's in the details of break downs and cut outs that I need the precision to be as perfect as possible... otherwise the rasta singing might get angry and smack me upside my white dread head. don't underestimate my fear!! ;)

well i'd need to start by learning to play the bass... I'll get back to you in 10 years once I've mastered it. And dude the length of any given 1/16th note of most of my bass patterns will make a huge difference in how it sounds... How could I ever properly replicate that by playing a keyboard or a bass guitar

Ableton live loops are fine but what if you want it automated in more than one way... I mean, yeah sure I can try and replicate what I've previously discovered to sound good, but if I miss it, I break everyone's vibe in a split second... it's safer and will sound better if it plays out the way I know/think it'll sound best, humans just aren't as precise as machines.

a good live set isn't lame if the music isn't lame... I mean, what credit do I get for spending literally hundreds of hours creating the Live in the first place? I almost feel like the Live set is a good time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor... not struggle with an impossible task just so that my quality can suffer from it.

i respect your opinion but I strongly disagree... true live would mean there's one guy on the drums, at least one on synth, one on bass and a DJ, oh shit there's a DJ, it's not actually Live anymore is it...
nobody's playing the kick drum, nobody's playing the bass, real hi hats don't sound like that, real kicks either...
I just don't see the point of doing a half assed job and pretending I'm playing a live by pressing a button every now and then.... not only did it take me a shitload of time to make the tracks, but I have to design the live itself, create transitions, remix and remaster everything... for what... 80$?

that video demonstrates exactly what I want to avoid... working so many extra hours to set your songs into a track that will really just degrade the music itself... there's no real flow when you're just pressing stop on one loop and start on another. and he's got his midi keyboard set up to control it all... GREAT! another 30 minutes spent setting up his equipment before his gig.
and imo that's still not psytrance...

and here's the kicker... mastering is all important and you can't master what hasn't been mixed, and you can't mix on the fly AND then master it before it hits the speakers... Kalan may have said something about that... im not gonna read it all again. In any case, I'm not a musician, I don't pretend to be... my music is based on years of trial and error, mostly error ;) so I'm not going to pretend that I'm 'making' the music as it's being played because that's just not true, nor would it sound good. BUT when Alien ZeD is booked for a Live set, you can be sure that I'm going to play all my own stuff and that I'm not going to let myself fuck it up by 'trying' to perform it on the fly. I AM however going to 'try' to show everyone a good time, and as Family Guy has proven, wacky inflatable arm flailing tube men are where it's at... at least I can be 4 of those words... wacky, arm flailing, man... yeah four!

Being able to manipulate what's going through the PA to manipulate the people on the dance floor... what the hell are you manipulating if everything was preproduced and prepackaged?

The setup doesn't have to be that complicated... I'm not saying you should play a synth with one hand while drumming with the other, playing pads with one foot and the other to loop in and out (although that would be fucking awesome) but it's sooooo fucking fun to have the actual stems of tunes to play with! There are so many possibilities of fun stuff to do with separate tracks that won't even compromise your need of perfection. There's a million and a half ways to do it... just grow some balls and find your own!

not bad... but not psytrance... show me a youtube video of a psytrance dude playing live. and infected mushroom isn't psytrance.

The psytrance scene considers Live to mean 'original' or 'exclusive', more than performed live i think... There's something spiritual in the 'vibe' psytrance gives off that makes it more than music almost, but you need it to be, let's say timed so well to not kill that feeling... anyway im pretty stoned so im not sure if that makes any sense... but I'm considering your offers!

in all seriousness though, I have no problem pressing play when I've put 100s of hours into the creation of the live set in the first place. I don't pretend to be a 'real music' musician and let's face it, no one man could play all the instruments live anyway, nor would they sound their best if they did.
I 'could' add some cheezy effects or spend another 20 hours taking my tracks apart JUST to be able to play around with a synth or two, but I won't, 'cause I don't see the point.

What matters the most to me, whether I'm playing live, performing a DJ set or organizing a party, is that the party-goers get to hear proper music in a proper environments with 0 fuck ups.
Anyway, someone buy this gear from me, it's in god-damn perfect condition and selling for way less than I paid for it. for the record, I paid 300$ before tax and am willing to let it go for less than that.
