Let me say first that I've burnt over 400 CD's with movies, music, porn, whatever... they are all sitting in my closet... I lost the catalog files a long time ago and have no clue what's on any of those CDs and I'll be damned if I am going to look through them for the Red Hot Chili Peppers album, I can just download it again!!

If MAC OS X supported replacing the harddrive, the optical drive, the motherboard or the processor, OS X would need to support them and then OS X would NOT be what it is today. It would NO longer be stable and NO longer be optimized and work the way computers should. Apple owns the whole shebang precisely so that they can make sure you have a flawless experience, if they need to support unknown upgrades and changes, you LOSE that stability and that experience.

You're question answers itself, because it's the cheapest model!! How do you make a computer cheaper? Use cheaper components!! What's cheaper than a DVD burner? A CD burner... honestly, every computer I've owned since 2000 has had a dvd burner, i've burned maybe 3 DVD's since then, I regret getting a DVD burner and I AM a power user. What would regular users need with a DVD burner?


Option to uprade.... it's the computer next to the cheapest model! Upgrades cost more, meaning not cheapest. Besides, you can't complain about the price of a companies' products... they charge what they deem it to be worth selling, don't like it, don't buy it.
That's why i don't buy PC's even though they are cheaper. Just don't like Windows.
