Mutator Biography
While many believed in the end of the world, in 2000 was born the pseudonym MUTATOR alias Jean-François Aubin, experimental DJ and electronic music composer. Fascinated by sound conception and the desire to innovate in the cinematic and rhythmics environment, he superimposes original music to satisfy his experimentations. Seeing music more like an illustrated journey than a song, he develops his own style and avoids mainstream.
Shut in his audio laboratory, he experiments with obscures sound sources made to dive the listener in an agonizing adventure somewhere between science fiction and hypnosis. Brillant melodist and mastering many instruments, he works in solitary, inspiring himself from old horror movies soundtracks and contemporary music. He samples music based on analog procedures such as vynil, analog tape and any old vintage equipment. Film music is his universe and his challenge remains in incorporating a rhythm that is unpredictable and easy to dance to.
In 2002, Musique Plus refers to his knowledge to present a serie of short capsules on the « M.Net » show on the methods of multimedia creations in electronic music. Going from a recording studio to another, he decides to open his own production studio called STUDIORANGE in Montreal with his associates Vincent Chourot and Bruno De Oliveira. Less than a year after, he organises and supports Drum&Bass and BreakBeat collectives from the underground scene. He helps in the production of diverse artists such as Élodéé Vanhess, South Squad and Pythagore.
In 2007, he will release his first album called NIGHT VISION under the productions CINEMATOBEAT. A video will be available as well as a very promising short adventure film Ninja style. You will see him perform with his new Djing system in various underground events. The album release date is set for the beginning of summer. More to come…
