Info: | Doc’s Comments Two Tribes was an excellent event, one of the best I’ve ever been involved in and a definite candidate for the kind of event I’d like people to remember my promotional efforts by. Of course like any rave event, the party had it’s own flavor in the form of a terminally fucked up jungle room which then caused a nasty cannibalization of the chill room’s equipment. Basically we were running without spare turntables and mixers, so when equipment in the jungle room glitched out, which it does when there’s nothing to replace it, we had to get creative and substitute and steal needles, decks, and other odd stuff from the chill room. Overall we managed to keep both rooms running for the entire night, but staff went through a serious amount of head and heartache over it. An interesting side story is how much I slept during the weekend of Two Tribes. That was night 2 of promoting, as we had done an event called Accelerated Culture the night before in Montreal with several of the djs from the Two Tribes lineup. I was up on Friday morning at 9am with the rest of the Montreal crew to pick up the truck and load in sound in Ottawa, drive to Montreal, unload all the sound into a second floor venue, setup for the rest of the day, party all night, and then at 8am pull apart the soundsystem and load it back into the truck. Drive the truck back to Ottawa to camp fortune, unload it all, set it back up, set the rest of the event up, and then stay up all night again. So let's see, we started at 9am friday morning and we're now at 9am sunday morning and several of the crew still hasn't slept. And then there's a problem - we need to get Spree and ADB back to Montreal to catch their afternoon flight back home. Guess who gets to do it! After picking up Belladonnakillz and some other djs and getting them to the bus station, we gather up Spree & ADB. Packing about 10 cans of Hype energy drinks, we set out bravely and I'm proud to say I didn't come close to nodding off ever - I had Carolyne with me and whenever we were feeling too tired we'd switch drivers. Plus having an MC in the car kept conversation interesting. Anyways, we get to Montreal and drop the djs off, and go to a friend's place to crash. But guess what : he's not home and we have to drive back. At this point it's 4PM and things are getting retarded. Once again, we drive back home and miraculously we make it back without any dangerous mishaps at the wheel. We get back to my house at 6pm and SLEEP. Glorious sleep. So a weekend that started at 9am friday ended 57 hours later. Although the lack of sleep definately did put a damper on my cheerfulness that weekend, I still had a great time and am amazed that we survived it all with huge smiles - big ups to the real hardcore crew: Jeremy, James, Carolyne, Charles Monroe, and Ben Lightguy. |
