Info: | To kick off the summer of 2005, this week at Sundaze will give you a taste of things to come in the future. We're always working hard to bring you, our loyal Sundaze patrons, that little something extra. We have a very special day in store for everyone on June 5th... Neoteric Music Promotions & DB Entertainment are proud to present two of Toronto's most promising exports: ERIC DOWNER (Studio 54, the Loft, Body & Soul, Fabric, Atlantis) - [ www.ericdowner.com ] & RAUL VARGAS [ ] [ hedv8network.com ] [ playrecords.net ] [ ultrasoundproductions.ca ] [ www.dowhatchagotta.com ] Residents to join Eric and Raul on Sunday: Easton Ellis General Mayhem Luc Labelle Rick Laplante - - - - - - - - - Eric Downer: When Eric Downer was living in London, Ontario he found work in a record shop being paid exclusively in vinyl. It was here that his career as a DJ really began to take shape. London at the time was booming with the right mix of people and saw Downer at gigs with Jeremy Caulfield (then Lotus), Wax Bean Orchard, Sunkissed, the Alchemist (DJ Nobody), Nitin, John Aquaviva, and out-of-towners such as Vapourspace and Alan Oldham (T-1000). Seeing the greater music industry through Acquaviva and the performers brought in from other cities ensured that Eric was past the point of no return. Working with such a crowd provided much inspiration and pushed Eric into newer styles of music and sound mixing. The mid 1990’s saw Downer make the move to Toronto and partake in events hosted by Transcendance and Alien Visitation, among others. This opened him up to many venues across the whole of the city from gritty, decrepit slaughterhouses, to derelict warehouses, out to the forests and beaches, onto tall ships and back to the heady nightclubs and more intimate nightspots. Mixing ambient, then getting out the techno and cutting his teeth at various weeklies and events, Downer was broadsided by the sounds of house. It was this period that saw him working through various genres during sets and experimenting with different sounds, textures and atmospheres on the dancefloor, keeping house at the center of his sound. Playing clubs like Industry, and other events gave Eric the freedom to express moods and ideas to sold out crowds. Gigging alongside many of the peers he met in London, he was also billed with the likes of Algorithm, Adam Marshall, Dave Cooper, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Richie Hawtin, and many other luminaries of the techno, ambient and house spheres while holding down various residencies. This exposure at home saw interest generated in other cities, bringing Eric to Halifax, Cincinnati, Detroit, Atlanta and points in-between. Currently, Eric is still experiencing the flux of his career, working by day as an audio technician in television and film, he maintains his role in Toronto’s underground, collaborating with Fukhouse during 2003/4 and starting his own night, Sensor. Still inspired by new technologies and sounds, Downer mixes a blend of his past influences with modern tech-house, techno and ambient textures to create a true dancefloor experience. In the past few years he has been a part of boundary pushing nights, bringing in current underground and respected talent such as Matthew Dear, Reily Reinhold, Portable and Jesper Dhalback while working in clubs like System Soundbar, and various non traditional spaces. The continuing inspiration and collaboration with people like Eliot Lazor, Task, Ian Guthrie, J Hunsberger, Lee Osborne, the Dukes, Mike D, Raul Vargas, Adam Marshall and promoters Alieninflux, Fukhouse, Terra, 99 Sudbury, Sensor and Geometry signify the supportive and dynamic atmosphere currently in Toronto and it’s vicinity. With an eye on the world, and an ear for new sounds, Downer now takes the last fifteen years of his life in music and works a fresh transition into the studio, and his future… Raul Vargas: For over eight years now Raul Vargas has been making ears smile with his tight mixing skills, an eye for crowd control and kick ass track selections. Raul on DJ'ing: "It's all about making them have a good time, let loose, live a little, forget their worries, even if only for a few hours ". To do this the Raul way, a mixture of Deep soulful house, bang'n house, tech house, acid house, techno and a dash of progressive is needed to produce the "perfect recipe". That recipe has landed him alongside "heavy hitters" in the industry such as Boo Williams, Deep Dish, John Acquaviva, Paul Edge, David Hollands and Q bert to name a few. Raul has had experience working with commercial and community radio and is now lending a hand to the DV8network, an online radio station dedicated to grass roots and diversity.. Raul keeps busy, that's for sure, as he also works for one of the industry's best record labels, Ultrasound Recordings. As well, he is currently in negotiations to work with another label, Play Records. Raul is also in the midst of launching a clothing label called Do Whatcha Gotta (DWG for short) which is going to focus on making and selling clothes, as well as promoting lesser know artists from across Canada " I just got sick of going to all these big events and having the headlining DJ's suck ass". Now Raul is out to show people that there's a lot of damn good talent that you don't get to hear in the big clubs and events. Some of the talent working with DWG include Soundsyster, Douglas, Shamus, Gizmo, Eric Downer, Redxdown the Dukes and many more. - - - - - - - - - - - - - This promises to be a day of music new to a lot of the Ottawa crowd. If you find you rarely get a chance to make it down to Ontario's Capital, on June 5th. Sundaze brings the sounds of Toronto to Canada's Capital. As always at Sundaze, we still offer complimentary fresh fruit platters in the mornings for our patrons and serve up the Tim Horton's home-brew coffee. As well, every Sunday at 11am, we annouce the winner of the draw for a $50 bar tab. (Each beverage you buy beforehand -Red Bull, water, juice, etc- gets you 1 ballot, but you have to be in the bar before 11am to hear the announcement and collect! hahaha! ). ;) 6am-6pm | $8 b4 7am/ $10 after | 19+ w/ ID | Hpnotiq Lounge - 400 Dalhousie @ Rideau Street (side entrance near former Acqua) | ROAR |
