Description: | Forward was established in the summer of 2008 as platform to promote underground electronic music, filling the absence of a weekly rendez-vous for the alternative club scene. Originally thought out to be a hosting ground for drum’n’bass, jungle, breaks and dubstep, Forward grew and evolved into a night made to showcase a wide array of genres and scenes working with a variety of different crews and artists such as Loetech, Sixtoo..., DZ, Datsik, Spor and Plastician, to name a few. **************** THIS WEEK **************** Ghostbeard (Ninja tune) [ ghostbeard.com ] Previously known as W.I.G, The Notorious W.I.G, and various other monikers throughout the years, 2007 saw the latest and hopefully last rebranding of one Jeff Waye into the man called Ghostbeard (despite basing a name around facial hair guaranteeing he can no longer shave… he has no regrets…) By day Jeff is one of the head folks at Ninja Tune Records (overseeing it’s North American operations) as well as being a partner in Third Side Music publishing… although his DJ career started well before taking the Ninja Tune position 13 years ago… Having started out way back in the early 90’s Montreal rave days, he was one of the go-to DJ’s for the “2nd room”. After a year or so of trying to compete with the room bleed from the main room on sub-par after-thought sound-systems, heady ambient records gave way to hip-hop/jazz/funk and the ol’ jungle records played on 33 trip out. Partnering with Ninja Tune in 1996 offered him various spots with lots of visiting artists, and the Ninja Tune aesthetic of playing a wide range of eclectic music through a set started to influence things more & more through the years. These days however, ever since adopting the Ghostbeard moniker, Jeff really just wants to play reggae, dancehall, jungle, dub-step, and all things ragga-related… Sure he’s got other jams on hand and will swing that way if need be, but it’s rare he has to… Having dealt with a wide range of classic reggae & dub labels at previous distribution jobs, been a buyer for some of the first jungle labels out of the UK, held down a reggae/dub night residency, and setting his credit card on fire every week with on-line dancehall 7” purchases, his collection runs deep and nerdy…but most importantly dancefloor rocking. **************** Miles D (Bionic Monkeys) [ www.indajunglerecording.com ] Coming at us as the youngest member of the Bionic Monkey dj team, Miles D is Montreal's drumstep and jump-up specialist. Reppin' every wednesday with the 420 crew on ubradio, this man brings the freshest, illest sounds to the speakers. A massive dnb set you do not want to miss! +++++++++++++ mc Regimental (performing with Rhys Taylor) audio: [ www.myspace.com ] visual: [ regimentaloneton.blogspot.com ] mc Elle Grave aka Gen (performing with Wally) [ www.myspace.com ] **************** + FORWARD RESIDENTS: Rhys Taylor, a nightlife legend who has been playing alongside big names of the international electronic music scene in Montreal for almost 10 years now. Holding down "Your Radio is Broken" on CKUT for the past 5 years, throwing Mix Thursdays for almost 3 years, a residency at Blue Dog, Saphir and then Blizzarts with Broken Crew and bringing breaks to Stereo are a few of his accomplishments. David Rawalia aka Wally, a dj who has been mastering his craft since 2003 and more recently producing his own unique sounds. After promoting rave culture and sound and organizing a multitude of one-off all-nighters, he moved on to the dubstep scene taking full-part in the forward weekly as well as participating in other events such as soma and bassdrive. **************** Passeport 2037 Saint-Denis Come check out the freshly tuned sound system, stick around for dope tunes and cheap booze, before you know, it's 3 am and you're kindly being informed that you need to move your butt outside... aint that the meaning of Thursday? 3$ b4 midnight 5$ after |
