SUBJECT: El Rassa 06 [ www.xwidetidals.com ]

The musical event of the year!

On July 29 th, Ottawa will host a bran new musical event, El Rassa 06 . This exciting musical gathering promises to be an extraordinary showcase of someof the best new talents on the local scene! A mixture of Afro beat, jazz, electronic and urban music, to listen and to dance to!

This first edition will be held at the new capital Music Hall. Subsidized by the Ontario arts council, the event promises to be a celebration of music featuring talented young Ottawa musicians as well as established artists from the

Montreal region.

Chronology of the event

In 2005, XLA (Joseph Achakji), a gifted songwriter and musician as well as being a savy businessman, created and launched his own record and

publishing company, XWide Tidals.

An Ottawa native, Joseph is always hard at work promoting and distributing his new creations while being keenly interested in the potential of music as a means of reaching out to people. That is why he decided to team up with atom lab (a company specializing in promoting special events) to create a musical event that would allow him to present his new material in the best possible settings to an Ottawa audience. For that special evening he will perform with his band and will share the stage with Ottawa's Soul Jazz Orchestra and a Montreal duo, Motus 3F.

The concept behind the event

Very much influenced by the <world> movement, X Wide Tidals will showcase three groups generating a dynamic and universal sound that is sure to draw an enthusiastic crowd. There will be lots of instruments played by very talented musicians, all under the guidance of an artistic director who has a colorful vision of the evening. One theme, one aim: to get people on their feet and dance the night away.

BANDS

Featured artist: XLA (Ottawa, Montréal)

Accompanied by a full band, XLA will present for the first time on stage the material of his soon to be released CD. A dynamic, high-spirited artist, who knows his way around words, XLA offers a blend of urban poetry and different musical genres; the end result is a unique musical environment that invites the listener to get on his feet and dance while at the same time offering food for thought. A people's person, XLA's artistry is dedicated to the well being of his listeners and audience; they, in return, show their appreciation. For Joseph, each new step is a moment of discovery and inspiration, and the future holds the promise of great new sounds and music. A new artist defenitively worth discovering!

The Soul Jazz Orchestra (Ottawa)

Already well known on the Ottawa circuit, the Soul Jazz Orchestra is a real pleasure to watch on stage. Mixing afro beat with Latin sounds and some jazz folk, the band displays a unique live chemistry that transports the listener to the different corners of the world. These are a bunch of daring, generous and accomplished musicians. An experience you don't want to miss! A new album is soon to be released.

Motus 3F (Montreal)

Motus 3F's sound can best be described as dance music based on an
<electro-phonetic> groove. They achieve this by sampling their voices in a live setting and then treating them electronically through different sound effects. Each performance is improvised, each a journey of discovery for them and the listener. A far-out hybrid of techno, breakbeat, funk, rock, hip-hop, drum n' bass, world folk and even…out of this world influences, Motus 3F is definitively a revelation on the new Montreal scene. Music for all, all for music!
