We’ll post pictures of the renovations shortly, and we’ll have specs on the added sound we’re bringing in. As for the talent: Satoshi Tomiie’s list of accomplishments is impressive to say the least: He was voted by the public into the #30 spot of the World’s Top 100 DJ List. Satoshi is the first American based DJ to be asked to record a NuBreed album (#6) for International label Global Underground. In 1989 Satoshi was featured on the massive collaboration “Tears” with Frankie Knuckles. In 2000 Satoshi wrote and produced his debut album for Sony entitled "Full Lick" featuring performances by Kelli Ali, former front woman for the Sneaker Pimps, Diane Charlemagne, Robert Owens and others. In 2001, Satoshi Tomiie launched his own label "SAW.RECORDINGS", and has since completely evolved the concept of house music. We’re very excited to bring him here to Ottawa. Brad Copeland comes to us from Montreal, where he is currently a resident at Stereo. Another homegrown talent, his producing and Djing accomplishments are now turning heads all over the world. San Mehat comes to us now from San Francisco, but we’ll always consider him an Ottawa boy. One of the most brilliant trance djs this city has ever produced, we’re definitely looking forward to a set by the one called NeTTwerk. The list of local DJs is no less impressive, with the likes of Trevor Walker, Chris MacPhee, Mike James, VH3, Graham J, Doc Savage, Pablo Diablo, and DJ SIN. The best talent we could track down, down to the last one. Flyer image curtousy of Def Mix, Flyer design by conceptual basement. We hope you’re as excited about this as we are. No need to go to Montreal this Victoria weekend. We brought the party here. brought to you by the Boys from Synergy, Vandelay, And Grounded. Give us a hug if you see us. It makes us happy :p |

Info: | Doc's Comments This was the first of three parties I threw in May, and another one that I am really proud of. This is the first time I worked with Raf from Vandalay and Erik (who does things freelance as far as I can tell - he had a big part in Farina coming down a while back), and I must say it was a pure pleasure from start to finish. It was very stressful because I had a LOT on my plate at the time - Two Tribes and Accelerated Culture coming up, as well as dealing with some serious financial losses from Project V as a result of around 100 people sneaking in a back door. And then to add to the stress, Surface booked Deep Dish for that Friday. Things looked somewhat grim for us, but we pulled up our bootstraps and got to work. I had just gotten my job as manager of Images Inter Alia, a print shop, and we went ahead and printed over a thousand bright red posters, which we proceded to put on EVERY SINGLE POLE in the downtown core. We would all go out every 2 days and touch up the gaps that would appear, making sure no matter where anyone went downtown they'd see SATOSHI TOMIIE in big red letters. I honestly think our excessive postering tipped the scales in our favor and resulted in an amazing event with 500 amazing people. All the performers did an amazing job, especially the headliners Satoshi and Brad and San along with VH3 - what a way to end the evening! |
