Info: | On Wednesday, March 29, 2006, Kapacity Entertainment proudly presents Blackalicious with special guests, Fat Lip (Pharcyde), Livesavas, and Pigeon John at the New Capital Music Hall. In a hip-hop career that has stretched past a decade, Blackalicious has earned respect the old-fashioned way – rising through honesty, commitment, and artistry. Emerging from the influential Bay Area indie scene of the mid-90s, they burst onto the world stage and provided a roadmap for hundreds of underground artists to follow. Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel met at John F. Kennedy High School in 1987 in Sacramento, California and formed Blackalicious in the early 1990s and released their first recording, "Swan Lake", on Solesides Records. The Solesides Crew consisted of the two and friends of theirs who all met at UC Davis, including DJ Shadow, Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truth Speaker. In late 1997, Solesides became Quannum Projects and in 1999 Blackalicious released the A2G EP, which served as a precursor to their debut full length album, Nia, released the following year to critical acclaim. They went on to tour the globe, headlining hundreds of shows with the likes of Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, The Roots, Public Enemy, and their Quannum homies, plus two more great albums, Blazing Arrow and last year’s, The Craft. Last time Blackalicious performed in the nation’s capital was at their sold-out show in 2000. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see these legends do their thing. After leaving the trailblazing hip-hop group, The Pharcyde, in the mid-1990s, he recorded a number of hit underground singles throughout the last several years and other high profile cameos, Fatlip finally released his highly anticipated album (plus a DVD), The Loneliest Punk, last year and has been touring since. This will be Fatlip’s first ever performance in Ottawa. Vursatyl, Jumbo the garbageman, and Rev. Shines make up the MCs and heartbeat of Lifesavas. Hailing from Portland and signed to Quannum Projects, Lifesavas have been making heads bang and necks snap with their deep-funk and boom-bap inspired hip-hop. They infuse their music with melody, soul and grit, and their next-level rhyme patterns travel the spectrum from political, to battle-ready braggadocio, to fun, old school style wordplay and singsong. Lifesavas fit right in with Quannum’s reputation for thought-provoking, innovative and stylish hip-hop music, which is all demonstrated on their debut smash, Spirit In Stone. Quannum Projects recently signed a multiple album deal with Pigeon John. He blends melody with rhythm, heartbreak with Hip-Hop, and washes away stereotypes. His songs tie the ear down and enrapture the audience from start to finish. With influences from De La Soul to the Beatles, Pigeon John opens up a brand new sound that will relate to all. His shows are stripped down and legendary, melding energy and humor- he is uncut, raw, and hilariously honest.
