Description: | THIS WEEK: We've chosen a mix of dnb breaks and dubstep for your listening pleasure **************** Bass-ic [ www.myspace.com ] **************** MilesD [ www.myspace.com ] What's up? my name is Miles Dozier, son of the african american long time career musician Michael Dozier and of Roseline Michaud. Its no surprise seing from what my father does that I have been a long time music lover since the age of ten when I was introduced to the album "about time" from the punk group pennywise. As I lived my teen years I was listening to korn, nofx , nirvana, primus, Les Claypool and of course a bit of rap. As I got into my older teen years and into being an "adult" the music that grew with me was a alot of death metal bands like: Nile, Slayer, Death and exhumed. Then it began, the electronic music, starting with techno, electro and minimal. It took me about 20 years to find my true love for drum & bass. My discovery of drum & bass is all because of rapper Tech N9ne, he has a song with a drum & bass vibe and as well as my good friend Kenny Almeida got me into some drum & bass artists such as Calyx, Dom & Roland, Goldie and so many more. What I love so much about drum & bass is there is such a variety of styles present such as reaggea, jazz, funk and rap. I started playing the guitar when I was ten and continued to do so intensely until around the age of 21 and to this day I am still an avid guitar player. I am also part of a rap group called Mouthaholics where I DJ and create songs. And finally, I wouldn't be where I am today if I wouldn't have started to DJ. At first I started DJing in electro and minimal tech and now I have moved all the way into the drum & bass (with a side project for dubstep) and I am hooked, pumped and ready for the massive drum & bass tunes fury of Dj Miles D. **************** Pinky38 [ www.myspace.com ] Ivan D has been into music since he was born, thanks to his parents, loving violin teachers, who shared the great gift of music with him. He had a violin in his hands by the age of 3, and did not let it go until he turned 15, when he discovered his true passion: turntables. Ivan, also known as Pinky 38, has been a DJ in and around the Montreal club scene for the past 4 years. He does some serious scratching, and has a style of music that ranges from break beat and house to electro. He has had the opportunity to mix in clubs such as the SAT, Station C, Blizzarts, Blue Dog, Kunta Lounge, Cafeteria, Kola Note, Missy Bar, Bar Les Conneries, Soho Lounge, Luba Lounge, Lucifer, Le Cathédrale, Le Bain Public, and has also played at a number of warehouse parties. Pinky has been involved in many successful music festivals, such as W.E.M.F. 2005 in Ontario, and Evolution Radar One 7 in Quebec. He has played alongside great DJs such as Robb G, Jordan Dare, DJ Bliss, DJ melon, The Hardsteppers, DJ plush, and DJ iznogood, just to name a few. He has also featured on many radio stations such as CKUT 90.3 FM and Radio Communautaire Montréal. Currently, Pinky is a resident at the Planète Break nights that take place at Kunta Lounge. For more information, contact Pinky at info@pinky38.com, or check out local websites, like [ breakbeat.ca ] and [ mtldnb.com ] In 2005, Pinky was invited by the IDJ family to play at one of Montreals elite venues, the SAT, that hosted the Breakin da Jungle party. This party was a success, and breakbeats as a whole in Montreal, gained credibility. In 2004, Pinky encountered the Frogland Breakers, which with whom, Pinky was eager to work with. One year later, the Frogland Breakers and Pinky were responsible for one of the best breakbeat events that Montreal had to offer, Planète Break. The frenzy just grew around it and Montreal breaks heads just wanted more, so they gave it to them with top quality parties including, visuals, live scratching, mc s and special guest from all over Canada Like Robb G (T.O), Dj plush(O.T), Hardsteppers (M.T.L.), Dj Rainforce (Halifax) these were just a few great names we brought down to give these hungry Montrealers a little fix of break beat. In 2003, Pinky maintained residency at Blue Dog, tuesday nights, alongside Dj Arock and Dj Joey crisp.Playing breakbeats but a with a funky edge. That same year he was holding down another residencie at Lucifer which was more of a funky house outlook. This night took place on fridays alongside dj s Mr Frank and j-Fizz for about a year. **************** Spacekadet [ www.rave.ca ] Expect any funky beat that puts a smile on your face. **************** + FORWARD RESIDENTS: Rhys Taylor, a nightlife legend who has been playing alongside big names of the international electronic music scene in Montreal for almost 10 years now. Holding down "Your Radio is Broken" on CKUT for the past 5 years, throwing Mix Thursdays for almost 3 years, a residency at Blue Dog, Saphir and then Blizzarts with Broken Crew and bringing breaks to Stereo are a few of his accomplishments. David Rawalia aka Wally, a dj who has been mastering his craft since 2003 and more recently producing his own unique sounds. After promoting rave culture and sound and organizing a multitude of one-off all-nighters, he moved on to the dubstep scene taking full-part in the forward weekly as well as working with the half electronic half band hybrid, RISK. **************** Passeport 2037 Saint-Denis Come check out the freshly tuned sound system, stick around for dope tunes and cheap booze, before you know, it's 3 am and you're kindly being informed that you need to move your butt outside... ain't that the meaning of Thursday? 3$ before midnight 5$ after |
