Description: | $8 in advance | $10 at door * Rafeef Ziadah Rafeef Ziadah is a Palestinian spoken word artist who recently released her debut album Hadeel in 2009 with grant support from the Ontario Arts Council. Rafeef Ziadah's spoken word performances are rooted in the Palestinian struggle for freedom and the key role that performance poetry has played in addressing struggles for social justice around the world. In parallel to artist work Ziadah is actively involved in the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA) in Toronto and the Toronto Palestine Film Festival. [ www.rafeefziadah.ca ] * Kaie Kellough Kaie Kellough is an acclaimed bilingual author, editor, educator, & general word-sound systemizer celebrated across Canada for innovative and socially conscience poetry, Kellough is the author of lettricity (Cumulus Press 04), the co-editor of talking book anthology (Cumulus Press 04) and will launch Maple Leaf Rag in April 2010 with Arbeiter Ring Publishing. [ www.kaie.ca ] * LAL LAL is a celebrated Toronto music collective that was founded over 10 years ago, their sound contrasts: icy, futuristic rhythms melting into warm basslines and soothing soul melodies, with reverberating atmospherics whirling about the spacious groove. Hints of singer Rosina Kazi's South Asian roots and Nick Murray or Murr's hip hop formation seasoned their productions with a taste of tradition, while the overall sound suggested something far more progressive. LAL's 2004 sophomore endeavor Warm Belly High Power, a record flush with confidence, its wide-open soundscapes filled with intricate percussive twists and turns that bounced around from late-night bedtime slow burners to 3am bliss. LAL's most recent release is Deportation, a record that conveys immense feelings that disorientation, abandonment and injustice. LAL is signed to Public Transit Records and has performed internationally across Canada and throughout the Indian sub-continent. [ www.lalforest.com ] * DJ Moonstarr Moonstarr is a celebrated beat-maker, DJ and founder of the grassroots Public Transit Recordings. As a beat-maker the man's composes behind closed doors over his synths, drum machines, and samplers to bang out some killer beats, everything Moonstarr touches carries imprints of deep techno, jazz, hip hop, bossa, and broken beat, resulting in tracks that step far into the future. Since Moonstarr dropped the now-classic Dupont EP, he's received love for his work the world over.
