Zoobizarre - 6388 St Hubert (Beaubien & St Hubert) | [ www.zoobizarre.org ]

Minibloc | [ www.le-son666.com ]

Minibloc is Anne-Françoise Jacques and Nicolas Dion, also from local electronic noise label Le-Son666.

Anne-Françoise is probably best known as the amazing sound girl at local bar/venue L'Hemisphere Gauche and Nicolas also plays in noisy electro-psychedelic band Intercom.

Minibloc is their more electroacoustic project. They like to partially improvise compositions and abstract pieces with contact mics and samples from everyday life. They also experiment with beats and rhythms creating dynamic auditory soundscapes. With backgrounds in electroacoustics their sounds are well developed.

For this event, they're going to be playing their 'house' set, which will rock dance floors. They're performance is so raw they could carve grooves into heads.

Other acts on their label are Massive Asthma (aka Leon Lo, Natacha Recordings) and Gin Gin Sussex. They have wide range (and great) musical interest and are really doing something different for the city.

Tractile | [ www.tractile.net ]

Tractile are two young upstarts from Sarnia Ontario, who first started making minimal techno from their basements. They started in high school by just sampling what ever they had on hand. These two technophiles make highly refined rhythm and funk tracks often from the simplest sounds. They've mastered the craft of producing interesting minimal beats and grooves following in footsteps of people like Richie Hawtin and Jeff Milligan.

The people behind Tractile are Joel Boychuk (born in 1985) and Adam Young (born in 1983). This is the first time they're going to be playing Montreal as Tractile. Adam played this year at Mutek with his solo project Direwires. They also have a label called Year of the Machine. They've been playing Anne-Arbor and Detroit frequently and gaining increasing attention amongst the Ghostly International crowd and beyond.

There is nothing better than young people doing things on their own, and defining and redefining territory for themselves. They are part of a newer generation of electronic artists and are really developing something of their own.

If you want to hear what they do, there's a media player on their website [ www.tractile.net ]

Luci | MUTEK_REC

Luci is Guillaume Coutu Dumont (Egg, Flabbergast, and Racam) and David Fafard (nAnalog). Luci played at Mutek this year, and were by far the highlight of the event.

Their beats and sounds are incredibly refined and highly produced to the tee. Their clever rhythmic structure and twisting jazz-like tunes fully engaged the audience through their entire performance. They never ceased to pump out interesting and funky grooves. The dance-floor could not get enough. There was an uproar by the audience when they finally had to stop.

The two are heavily trained in electroacoustics and percussion and are highly active in the Montreal electronic community. Like any most electronic artists in the city, they are better known internationally than in their own home. Luci celebrated their 12" release on MUTEK_REC earlier this year.
