OPUS-5G X Recess With Sybil [ Static Link : iCal ] |
City: | Canada, Quebec, Montreal |
Time: | Sun Feb 9, 2025 @ 2:00pm till Sun Feb 9, 2025 @ 11:00pm |
Description: | After an all-night rave in an abandoned industrial building this summer, the OPUS 5G crew is back at it, this time collaborating with Recess, the infamous NYC playground-curating crew. What’s more, they’re bringing Sybil from London to make her Canadian debut. OPUS-5G boys Michele Azur and lilaiza will be leading a vicious b2b to lure you into the hazy dancefloor. Lilaiza has been heavily involved in the Montreal DIY scene over the past two years, co-founding the summer rave series Fissure and co-organizing Autobahn’s first edition, alongside collaborating with other collectives such as Mu. His aspirations are taken from 90’s techno mixed with more modern psychedelic and progressive sounds, seeking to deliver moments of euphoria on the dancefloor. Michele Azur is behind STM Underground, organizing ambient and dance music events in clandestine locations around Montreal. He also organizes the Bohême Système Festival and intimate Hijinx parties. An avid listener of sounds from the UK and beyond, you can catch his show The Tunnel on CKUT 90.3FM on alternating Mondays at midnight. Sybil brings to the artform of DJing a skill for storytelling, and a prescient musical intuition, which enables her to know exactly when to shift the energy of a dance floor, and in what direction. At the core of Sybil’s mystical selections is an emotional depth, textural clarity and a sense of space. She is equally adept at playing high-energy propulsive techno, as she is at exploring sumptuous downtempo, euphoric trance, expansive drone, and even full-throttle drum and bass. Sybil’s sets often criss-cross through all of these genres and more, as she guides dancers on journeys which are emotive, thrilling and ultimately revitalising. RECESS is a queer psychedelic day-rave that brings the spiritual energy of forest to the DIY rave scene in NYC, giving space for all things whimsical, earthy, lush, sexy and fluid. The mission is to create a playful, open, youthful energy within the rave that is often associated with open air parties and festivals in nature. RECESS often features artists that draw from headier inspiration – deep techno, psytrance, breaks, bass, ambient, and everything in between. Through the party, the hope is to offer a space for artists to play more ethereal, emotive, and heart-driven facets of their sound. After growing up on the renegade scene of Montreal, Paul (alias como se DJ) moved to Brooklyn and founded the DIY party series RECESS with the intention of bringing a psy-forward sound he felt was missing in New York City. Inspired by forest raves and experimental dance music, he dreamt up his party with the desire to conjure the feeling of dancing in open nature with your friends. como se DJ’s sets strikes a balance of body- and heart-activating psychedelia. At once mischievous and emotional, he pulls in sonic elements of bass, deep techno, prog and electro, flirting with genre and groove, while maintaining a lush, blissed-out undercurrent. The Bay Area DIY scene nourished Eugenia’s roots as a DJ: Through performing at deep techno and ambient-centered gatherings in SF and Oakland from 2017, she began to develop a dynamic sound marked with her signature shimmering, whimsical touch. Her sets are reflective, playful and textural, soaring across genres and energy levels with a queer twist – while remaining tender, minimalistic, and irresistibly groovy. Eugenia is also a practicing poet and is host of a genre-nonconforming, ambient-inspired mix series, The Shape of Memory which aims to re-imagine memory as a living, breathing being which influences our feelings and our sense of self. Upon moving to New York City in 2023, she fell right into the lap of RECESS, where she has continued honing her voice. Expect lots of smoke and fairy tale lights on the dancefloor courtesy of our beloved Fantasy! Pleased to announce that the sound will be powered by the almighty Pomelo sound system.
