City:Canada, Ontario, Ottawa
Time:Fri Jan 15, 2010 @ 10:00pm till Sat Jan 16, 2010 @ 3:00am
Description:FUNKTION: Vol. 7

With the talk of January detox, you could be forgiven for thinking ‘club-land’ shuts down for the month at the beginning of each year. But you'd be wrong. Our city has proven that nightlife is alive and kicking and FUNKTION has lots in store to keep you warm and entertained in the coming winter months.

If you are looking for fresh new music even at this time of year, it means you are a crazy music junkie like we are. And we will be glad to help you. After last month's fantastic show featuring Montreal's Joubin (Stereo Productions - Yoshitoshi), the Funktion crew returns this month for yet another outrageously well-equipped party in the intimate vibe of Lotus. So dust off those January blues, and dance in the face of the snow!

As the doors close on 2009 with great momentum to our monthly Funktion parties, we look back, and are proud to be able to showcase both emerging and merited DJ talent we feel is rightfully deserved. Now it's our turn. We've decided, what better way to ring in 2010, but to shed some light on the two hard-working DJs/promoters that are the commanding force behind Funktion.

This month, we will be kicking off this two-part showcase with an extended-set by one-half of the Funktion crew; a well-deserved spotlight on the beautiful, and perhaps arguably one of the most talented female DJs in the Ottawa scene – DJ PLUSH.

Leading her way will be Funktion's DISKO DAVE, ready to deliver as always.

-------
DJ PLUSH
[Funktion, Paradox Productions]

DJ PLUSH is an Ottawa-based DJ with a unique and slammin' dance floor sound in a town better known for its laid-back house style. For over ten years she has brought her high energy and enthusiastic stage presence to events throughout Canada and the US. With a passion for music and an infectious personality, Plush has proven to be a crowd favourite time and time again.

Known for establishing “Chicks with Decks”, the 3 year weekly club night which, at the time, hailed as Canada's longest running all-female DJ night, Plush has also hosted a radio show called “Movement” on CHUO 89.1 FM showcasing female talent, was featured in a documentary for TV Ontario, taught at a ‘DJ school’ held at ABM Records, was the subject of featured articles and press releases, and has even written interviews on prominent global DJs and influences in the scene.

DJ Plush is a resident and co-founder of FUNKTION, held on the third Friday of every month. Mixing a blend of breaks, house and electro, she offers a fresh style and unique perspective destined to change the view of what people perceive as ‘breaks’.

A veteran of the Ottawa scene, this proven crowd favourite is guaranteed to have everyone dancing to her beats. You know a party is hot when Plush gets behind the decks and the crowd tears up the dance floor. Prepare to dance all night long.

-------

We are also pleased to feature two new guests who will be doing a special tag set for Volume 7: TTL and NICK DANGER. These 2 rising names in the Ottawa scene have recently joined forces, along with a few other members of their team, and have started up a new monthly event called “Sounds CRMNL” which features an eclectic variety of music. We are pleased to have them on board this month, and we're sure they will help shape the vibe of the night into a stellar blend of cutting-edge electronic music.

-------
TTL
[Sounds CRMNL/DFF]

TTL is known for bringing the energy of any event he plays at, to soaring new heights. With his unique mixing style, track selection and devotion to his audience, TTL is able to bring his listeners on an auditory journey. Exploring sound with his own blend of Minimal Techno, House, Breaks, and dance floor destroying bass lines. He has many ways to send any party into the stratosphere. A 3-year resident with Ottawa's longest running Hard Dance monthly event, “Deep Frequency Fusion”, TTL has also performed in major cities across Canada such as Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal. He has a love for the music, that words just don't do justice. Those that have seen him play repeatedly say that his music defies borders and always leaves the crowd wanting more.

-------
NICK DANGER
[Sounds CRMNL]

He might be a new face on the DJ scene, but Nick Danger knows how to get into trouble. He is no stranger of electronic music. He has been honing his technique for quite some time now and is ready to make his mark; the Tech House scene won't know what hit them. Every show Nick Danger has played always leaves the crowd talking about the calibre of his music for days after. With just a few shows under his belt, Nick Danger is ready to show Ottawa what it's been missing.

-------

So what you waiting for, don't be stuck out in the cold; come and visit us and get your dance on!
