This was a bit of an oddball event - a 50% goa, 50% epic trance event. Regardless, it did extremely well except for the fact that our headliner Indiadrop never received his plane ticket so never came. This made our partner Dave from One Tribe very upset, so upset that he felt his company name was tarnished by the association with the event. He had gone to Bowggy earlier to pick up ticket money for us and in lieu of Indiadrop not coming and some garbage about the fact that we used portapotties, he decided he would keep over a thousand dollars in ticket money as compensation for the irreparable damage this event caused his company's reputation.
Obviously my position was that this was absolute bullshit. Everyone at the event had a great time, and although there were some people who were dissapointed that Indiadrop didn't make it, no one was angry or upset. There was definately no 'tarnishing of companies' or 'irreparable damage' coming into play. Normally if someone steals from me, I don't like them much. But it's hard to hate Dave from One Tribe and call him a theif because in his chemically adjusted mind, he made sense and was in the right. And even though he's a lawyer, I'm not afraid of getting slapped with a slander suit because he will agree with everything I said so far : he does not deny taking that money from Bowwgy and keeping it for the reasons I listed above. He feels justified in his actions.
Anyways, the craziest part of this story is that once he told me he was keeping the money, I went down to the police station to tell them that someone had stolen over a thousand dollars from me, and they didn't budge. Apparently there are very specific circumstances under which the police will get involved in a theft case like this, and because the people at Bowggy gave Dave the money, it was up to them to file the theft claim or for me to file against Bowggy. Bowggy wasn't willing to get involved in what it rightly felt was a squabble between the promoters, and I wasn't willing to press charges against Bowggy, who hadn't done anything wrong. So all in all I was fucked. Score one for Dave from One Tribe. Or rather score one thousand plus for Dave.
