JDUB
CHICAGO – heavy soul technique

The Chicago house music movement continues to produce unique and original voices for the global masses. One of the Windy City’s chief exports is JDub, the master of the Heavy Soul technique. His funky, hot, and tasty sets have taken him across North America and Europe as an undeniable talent and crowd pleaser.

As a serious deep house devotee, JDub discovered the new sound of Chicago house music at the legendary Shelter nightclub in 1991. There he heard the likes of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Gene Farris, and Diz. The great second-wave of Chicago house music DJ’s, producers, and label heads was coming together to generate a new sound and direction. Soon, he began to throw loft parties in Wicker Park with his partner Diz. His addiction to wax soon followed. Eventually, a guest spot at Red Dog in late 1996 led to his first residency. Next up was a residency as a part of Material @ Shelter, which continued until the club closing in 2000. His fiery sets soon attracted the attention of many of the city’s top promoters and became a regular attraction on the Chicago underground scene. He was a featured artist at the 1997 Billboard Conference held in Chicago playing at several high-profile events. This surge of interest led to the beginning of a new collaboration with DJ Sneak later that year. Sneak was just started his Solid monthly series at Industry in Toronto and helped make JDub a regular part of the Canadian house scene.

Since then, JDub has held residencies at Common Thread @ Sonar (Vancouver), Element Bar (Toronto), 360 (Los Angeles), Sorted @ Smart Bar, and Lunacy @ Crobar (Chicago). He has been a frequent guest on the North American club circuit from Seattle to Miami, Halifax to Los Angeles. In 1998, he was one of the first artists asked to join All World Entertainment Group based in Toronto. In 2000, he touched down in fifteen different North American venues with Mark Farina on the San Francisco Sessions Tour. He was also a guest at Sneak’s seminal Tight residency at The End (London) and had the first of many trips to Paris most recently rocking the disco at the Folies Pigalles. His travels have included several appearances at North American Jazz Festivals (JVC Toronto, Whistler) and opening for the likes of Fat Boy Slim, King Britt, Josh Wink, Basement Jaxx, and Moby.

In addition to his club appearances, JDub has produced multiple infamous tapes and CD’s for Blu Funk Recordings including Parallel with Mark Farina, Groit, Carnival, and Vergence. His sets have been featured on major radio stations in Paris, Tokyo, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and most recently on DJ Colette’s Maximum Rotation in Los Angeles. JDub has appeared as a guest several times on Much Music’s Electric Circus television show.

JDub is currently a frequent guest at Smartbar Chicago, playing alongside the World’s finest and continues to tour nonstop spreading the Heavy Soul funk wherever he goes. Look for his debut single “On the Line” released on Greenkeepers, March 2005, featuring Dubs production and vocal savvy.
