Info: | RICK THE PLANT Originally hailing from Ottawa, Rick Laplante returned to the Nation’s Capital in 1998, after having lived in London, ON for many years. His involvement in the London party scene began in early 1992 with Prism Productions, his promotions company committed to hosting intimate gatherings with good vibes and fresh music. Unable to resist the hypnotizing pull of the 1200’s for long, Rick began basement Dj’ing later in 1992, with his first professional gig the following year. His main musical influences came through London’s proximity to Detroit and Toronto, where frequent weekend visits to these cities exposed him to some of the most groundbreaking underground sounds heard in the world during the early 90’s. He’s now been professionally Dj’ing for over 12 years, and throughout his career has played alongside notables such as Richie Hawtin, John Acquaviva, Algorithm, Dominik, The Dukes, Dave Yates, Captial J, Dr. Trance, Ian Guthrie, Eric Downer, Kilgore Trout, and of course many great Ottawa locals. Rick has an eclectic music collection with styles ranging from blunted breaks to disco to jazz, latin, and lounge - but his preferred club style is anything in the spectrum of prog, tech- and funky house. He hasn’t forgotten his hard acid roots, though. You can always expect the unexpected as Rick blends many different styles into many of his Dj sets. Since moving back to Ottawa, Rick has been active in the local scene. He’s Dj’d in Ottawa venues such as Atomic, the lounge at Surface, The Well, Mtl. & Co, Umbrella Room/Rouge, Buddah Bar, Bar 56/Collection, to name a few. He has helped promote several events and club nights in Ottawa as well, and is currently spending most of his time Dj’ing and promoting Sundaze Day Lounge and Afterparty - every Sunday morning at Mavericks (221 Rideau Street, Ottawa). Rick endeavours to provide the dancefloor with a progressive blend of electronica, from funky house beats to tech-house and everything in between. He likes to bring new sounds to the dancefloor audience, yet doesn’t shy away from the classic underground tracks. Good music is timeless! w Morphotik $3 b4 12, $5 after Drink specials before 12. Hope to see you friday :) |
