yeah it is dangerous, but I mean.. you do have to stab yourself with it to contract a disease.

they are gross and scary non the less.

yeah, and most people don't wear steel-sole shoes or shoes with thick/hard soles, they wear running shoes or, in summer, sandals and open-toe shoes, which makes the risk be that much higher.

Even the idea of getting aids from walking down the street (and some how getting pricked by a badly tossed needle) freaks the shit out of me. My only real comfort is knowing that the #1 enemy of aids is oxygen; then again, needles are tapered and hollow, so you get one infected cell in your blood stream and you are fucked.

God bless my steel toe boots, they protect me from needles and are also useful for kicking people who discard the needles in public.

honestly... how many cases have you seen of someone walking down the street and randomly stepping on a discarded needle and later contracting HIV?? im sorry but as scary as it might be.. be realistic.

maybe, but the more people leave their needles lying around the more likely you are to step on them. it shouldn't even be an issue y'know? people should jsut be more careful if they're going to be stupid enough to do that stuff..
it's not just HIV, but it's just dirty
there was ONE needle (for sewing) on the floor in my living room and my sister happened to step on it.. i mean, if there's a needle on the sidewalk that hundreds of people walk by, it's still a pretty good chance someone will step on it

As nasty as it is to see needles lying around, hayley has a point in that its pretty fucking unlikely to have a needle actually pierce one's skin, even if one DID step on it, because of course the needle would be lying horizontally and not pointing upwards. I think as a result of all that stuff they tell you as kids (don't talk to strangers if they offer you candy, don't play with needles you find in the park, etc) people automatically associate a needle lying around with a danger of getting HIV...when the actualy danger is miniscule.

Just like fumbling with a pencil in class, you can kick a needle into your heel when stepping forwards. But it depends again if your actually walking over the needle. The point is it can happen. I actually know 2 people who were struck by lightening. What are the odds? Small, but the dumber you are about it, the higher the odds are of it happening.
