Beer Belly A Myth, Research Shows

LONDON -- (Sunday Times) Good news to beer guzzlers -- there is no link between beer drinking and a beer belly, new research shows.
What's more, the research conducted at the University College of London reveals women who drink beer tend to weigh less, not more than non-drinkers. The research team led by Martin Bobak wanted to settle the question of whether beer led to an increase in weight. Some studies supported the notion while others did not. The team used data based in the Czech Republic, which boasts of the highest per capita beer consumption in the world. The data included 891 men and 1,098 women aged 25-64 who were either non-drinkers or drank exclusively beer and compared their body mass index and waist-hip ratio, which measures the so called "beer belly." The researchers found that when corrected for factors such as smoking, there was no significant link between beer drinking and a beer belly -- and women who drank beer tended to weigh less, rather than more, than those who did not. Reporting in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the team concludes: "It is unlikely that beer intake is associated with a largely increased waist-hip ratio or body mass index . . . the association between beer and obesity, if it exists, is probably weak." According to Bobak, beer may not be the real culprit in a beer belly but beer drinking is linked to other aspects of diet and lifestyle that may cause a beer belly. Bobak admits to drinking the odd beer himself, and sees no reason why Czech beer should be any different in its effect from the beers of other countries. "The Czechs brew excellent beer but it has the same calorie content, and the same amounts of sugar and alcohol as British beer. Nutritionally, they are very similar," Bobak said. |

protein keeps you from being a zombie...
carbs give you energy... if you run out of carbs and you still need energy, then you use fat, once thats finished, the protein goes... you can look healthy without eating any carbs... carbs are a quick and efficient source of energy, if you use them |

fat is a more efficient energy, carbs are just the preferred fuel
ketones are loads more efficiently burning than carbs... hence the atkins diet, also known long before atkins as the KETOGENIC diet, been used by bodybuilders on cutting cycles for ages, atkins just gave it publicity |

eat what you wanna eat. but if you're fat, it's prolly one of two things:
-You eat too much -You spend too much time on your ass |

you can a loaf of bread a day and not be fat... The whole equation is Energy in - Energy out = all the left over is fat. carbs are burnt first, then protein then lipids.
so as long as you aren't sitting on yer ass all day long and excersice once in awhile you can eat all the carbs ya want! And i'm very happy to hear that beer = no beer belly especially for the ladies |
