| I've discovered the reason for my fish's death. The autopsy revealed that he died from a lack of oxygen due to a defective Protein Skimmer. When I made this thread he actually wasn't dead yet. He was only blinded by a protein buildup in his eyes (another reason he died, other than the oxygen). He only died while I tried to catch him to put him in my holding tank (that doesn't have any rocks) by swimming full speed into a rock and caving in his head. He was spastic until then due to lack of oxygen and blindness. It was a horrible death. |

the protein skimmer stopped working late saturday night.. so there was excess protein in the tank, it built up in his eyes causing him to go blind. the protein skimmer is also responsible for oxygenating the tank, so there was hardly any oxygen by the time monday came along. so he was a little crazy cuz of the lack of oxygen, and scared cuz of the blindness, so when i tried to catch him i freaked him out real bad and he tried to swim away real fast and smacked his head in a rock |
