i'm not blaming junkies for their habit - i'm merely saying that no matter how high you are you can still dispose of yer needles |

well, i dunno bout you guys but not every junkie has aid.. (just an assumption).. I read somewhere that around 25-30% of the injection heroin users in the Vancouver area (just as an example) have HIV. You can't underestimate the power of the cravings that hardcore junkies get for their fix. And when the only way to get your fix is to use an already-used needle, many (if not most) junkies will still shoot up. So when one person in a circle of junkies contracts HIV, they then spread that around to everyone else in their circle, and it multiplies from there. |

lol I find it funny that someone mentioned "social programs" and society being at fault as well..
SORRY.. Most of the people on the site agree it's a PERSONAL decision, and a person problem... When I suggested people might try drugs from peer pressure everyone said it was a PERSONAL choice... So society has no responsibility for people's PERSONAL choices then but shooters shouldn't expose us and little children to filthy used needles... |

It's our personal choice not to be surrounded by used syringes so people shouldn't infringe on our freedom |

Even if shooting up is a personal choice, that doesn't mean that society plays no role in the matter. We can do one of two things:
1) send the message to injection drug users that they're scum, do everything possible to make it difficult for them to get their fix in a safe way, so the junkies have no real choice but to inject in unsafe conditions in abandoned buildings and steal to get their fix, or 2) tell junkies that while we don't agree with their decision, we'll do we can to minismise harm to the user and society by providing a safe place to shoot up, a free needle exchange program, and a safe way to dispose of their needles |

right, when did i say it wasnt a personal choice or that all users use cause of peer pressure? obviously i was wrong when i assumed that everyone would be able to grasp the concept of the existance of an infrastructure for the production and proliferation of narcotics.
let me know when you get a grasp of that and then maybe you'll understand my point of view. |

seriously i agree there is a way, if youre gonan leave the neeedle laying around at least break the fukin tip off and put it in the bottle how hard is it to pash a fukin trash can on yorue way there gonan be running around most of the time anyway |
Good [+1]Toggle ReplyLink» hayley replied on Tue Mar 2, 2004 @ 9:20pm |
wow thats idiotic... you dont fukn throw you discarded needle point in the trash! and what bottle are you talking about there speedy? last time i checked you didnt by heroin in a bottle at the fukn couchetard...
and although it saddens me to say this - junkies are normally to high following their shot to give 2 fucks about where their needle goes. its a problem for sure. With proper social programs however.. this dilemma would be non-existent.. or greatly greatly minimized... |

Much of the harm associated with illegal drug use (both to the user and to society) occurs precisely because of prohibition. As soon as our governments abandon the paradigm of using violence to try to prevent drug use, we can collectively begin to formulate effective solutions to some of the problems of drug use. |
