hahahaha...that is funny
hip-hop as a way of life, can be taken so many different ways, i guess as many different ways as there are definitions of what hip-hop is... whatever ever |

hip hop does not equal...RAP!!!
rap is just the most conspicuous of hip hop manifestation, and only because it is the most profitable (ie marketable) aspect of the "game". Far be it for me to endorse the so called four elements theory, we can split it up into MC ing,DJing, break dancing, and Writting (graph). I purposely put them in that order to show the progression from most profitable, MCing, to least profitable, writting , profitable that is for the owners of the mainstream culture machine that pumps out peoples identities. Thats why they will be happy to have Graph on say shoes but will never endorse the Writters lifestyle of bombing everything in sight with paint or markers, atleat not in the same way that they endorse MCing as a lifestyle. Thats why I think if you've never spent at least some time of your life seriously Writting Graph you can't really say you understand the game. If you wanna understand the culture of hip hop and its origins you should watch the movie "style wars" which was made in 1982 and attempts to provide an accurate picture of the fledgling hip hop movement in New York. Check it out it's worth a watch even if it is somewhat hard to find these days. |
