the way they recorded the stuff was awesome... they had limited amounts of tracks so they had to double up some stuff, and ussually the studio was filled with weed smoke... They did stuff like crazy tape delays and physically wacking plate reverb boxes to get weird sounds out of them.. innovators |

actually studio one was pretty strict about the 'erb - as were most of the major studios back then
lee scratch was pretty much the only one allowing ganja - as he was into the rasta movement many people were and are still scared of the raggamuffin rasta philosophies |

I remember I saw a show about marley and they showed some recording sessions and they were smoking like chimneys.. It's a bad idea in general to smoke in a studio though.. bad for equipment |

21st century dub, with old school dub vocal flavours, versions, really minimal, amazing shit, is Rhythm & Sound.. they do releases on CD and vinyl for Basic Channel, co-produced by the fodfather of minimal techno, maurizio... kinda like maurizio's classic m1, m2, m3, etc. releases, but even more minimal and dubby, and most tracks have vocal versions... neil can vouch for 'em too i'm sure, but check this shit out, anyone interested in jamaican dub...
also ya, big props to king tubby, lee scratch perry et al. |
