for some reason, gabber has always been one of my faves. although some of the "anthems" are cheesy, there is still alot of good stuff out there |

Its actually by Bodylotion.
There's some pretty lame views here. At least exT is making informed posts. Its funny to see people into speedcore and the more experimental sides of hardcore, pigeonholeing newstyle, with opinions which appear to be half formed, if that. |

the difference between gabber and hardcore is like the difference between electro and electro. it all depends whose talking, it's just a matter of opinion on a subject where there is absolutely no consensus. you can yammer all you want but it's impossible to find out WHAT gabber IS, or WHAT hardcore actually IS, there just words whose meaning is constantly changing, and they mean something different to everyone at any point in time. but carlos, if you're looking for the OFFICIAL source of truth on the matter, check out [ www.theresnosuchthingyoufuckingmoron.com... ] !onelove and such. |

The funny thing is that newstyle is pretty much pigeonholing itself... it doesn't really need anyone to point out the formulaic aspects... although, when it comes down to it, speedcore is about twice as bad for being strictly formula: fastfastfastfastfast-violent sample-fastfastfastfastfast-angry sample-fastfastfastfastfast - you get the idea... violent and angry may be replaced by amusing or stupid as well.
Really, however - the whole beats-hoover-sample concept was beat to death by the end of '92. Making it faster has really been the only change. The truth those big hardcore parties in Holland don't seem to be much different than Ministry of Sound or any number of British superclubs. Why am I even a part of this thread? |

i find that the kind of hardcore i like best is the french stuff. I was introduced to gabber/hardcore with the dutch stuff and some industrial strength shit but got bored of it really quick. I find most speedcore boring as hell, not because it's too fast but because for most tracks it seems that no effort whatsoever was involved in creating them. |

Most French hardcore is boring as hell too, sorry to burst your bubble. It's not bad, just always the same. Personnally I dig Épitèth up until their recent releases, but then again I seldom revisit them. Fishead often mentions Hangars Liquides - I don't own any, but what I've heard is quality psychedelia.
The problem is not with any particular style of hardcore (excluding newstyle and Rotterdam gabber, and a few other subgenres that just sound like sped-up dance music, which have always sucked), it's with people who only listen to hardcore and/or generally agressive music, like there's nothing else out there. |
