Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) has introduced a House version of the RAVE Act (HR 5519). The House Subcommittee on Crime will be considering the bill on Thursday (the 10th). If it passes out of the Subcommittee, the RAVE Act could become law this year, which means federal prosecutors will have the power they need to shut down raves, hemp festivals, hip hop concerts, and other events they don’t like.

Because of its broad language, the proposed law would also potentially subject people to enormous federal sentences if some of their guests smoked marijuana at their party or barbecue. It would also effectively make it a federal crime to rent property to medical marijuana patients and their caregivers.

Health advocates worry that the bill will endanger our nation's youth. If enacted, licensed and law-abiding business owners may stop hosting raves or other events that federal authorities don't like, out of fear of massive fines and prison sentences. Thus, the law would drive raves and other musical events further underground and away from public health and safety regulations. It would also discourage business owners from enacting smart harm-reduction measures to protect their customers. By insinuating that selling bottled water and offering "cool off" rooms is proof that owners and promoters know drug use is occurring at their events, this bill may make business owners too afraid to implement such harm-reduction measures, and the safety of our kids will suffer.

Is there a real difference between U.S.A. and Canada ?? We all want to believe there is,but this country's politics are really much influenced by the neighbours ones.Like for marijuana laws,George Bush (damn reptile !) DID slow down the process because it's really sketchy in U.S and they have a moral power (at least, but there's many other things we don't know about, and can't even imagine...)over Canada. We'll have to think soon of organising those secret underground parties in the woods (without flyers or anything, really underground ).If that's where it's taking us,we'll do it.NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US FROM CELEBRATING THE WONDERS OF LIFE AND MUSIC !!! FREE PARTIERS !!

I say we should all buy sniper rifles and run thru America killing people so they will get confused on who is the killer since he will be appearing everywhere in the country in matter of seconds.
