Major XVI Announcement - Please Read
October 27, 2003

Unfortunately we have some very bad news to announce. XVI is no more.

Only a few days before we were about to install the new server we bought last weekend, two hard drives failed on the existing server. The server used a technology called RAID to both protect and speed up disk access, but the one event that can cause catastrophic failure is to lose two drives at once. All user records, images, flyers, forums, events etc. have been permanently destroyed.

Today Wes and I met to make a decision on where to go from here. As many of you know, I've been getting less and less involved in the scene and DJing and by extension XVI. I'm 31 now and my priorities have changed significantly over the last six months or so. I'm more focused on work and my own life now, rather than partying and the scene. Everyone comes to this crossroads in their life at some point, and losing XVI has really made me think more about where I'm going with my life.

And so, XVI as you have known it has come to an end.

However, that doesn't mean that it's all over. Wes has decided to embark on a new XVI and will trying out an idea possibly never seen before on the Internet - he will be building it "live," right in front of your eyes. In the next few days this page will once again be a login screen. Your options will be limited at first but as the new code grows and matures a new XVI will be born. I'm sure many of you will agree that leaving some of XVI behind and bringing forward only that which made XVI the positive, unifying force that it was could be the best thing that ever happened to this community.

Personally, I will remain on the site as a coder and to some extent an administrator, but from now on Wes is the head honcho when it comes to XVI. The time has come to pass on the torch and I can think of no one more capable than him. He not only is one of the finest coders I have ever met, but also has demonstrated that his morality, neutrality, and good nature are well-aligned with the original ideals that I had for XVI and indeed those of the scene which XVI serves.

And so with that, I bid you farewell. Graham J is now officially a ghost from the past. I'll just be Graham from now on. To everyone who helped make XVI what it was, to everyone who supported myself and the site through thick and thin, to everyone I partied with and made so many memories with that I will cherish for the rest of my life, I say a sincere thank-you. The decade I've been in this scene has been a time I will always remember, always hope the best for, and always be glad that I was able to be such a large part of.

Sorry if I'm sounding a little melodramatic, but coming to this decision was a difficult task as you can imagine. Please, if you see me around, don't dwell on this. I just want to move on and be a normal person, not "that XVI guy." I'm sure it's hard for all of us to take this loss, but believe me, it's harder for me than anyone.

- Graham

Wes should have a new forum system up on XVI in the next week or so, so keep an eye on this page. When the new system comes up we'll post details about outstanding star memberships and some other odds and ends. Until then the ezBoard forums are still here for your enjoyment:

AWWWWW

GRAHAM J changed my life for the past
Years with that site:( Like many of you,
I ve seen all XVI versions from the start .
I ate breakfast with it, work with it, chilled with it and wATch it before going to bed. XVI was part of my life !!!!!!!

I dated boys from there, had a couple bfs from there. Met my ravah crew on there, met several friends, used it like a tool to sell my old crap. Booked djs for party, found new artists. Talked many boiling topics. Found out about regional house parties and raves and club shit:)

Just wanna say thanks GRaham...:)and Wes...
We will miss it:(*TEARS* but life is life.
Oh well!

Now,I dunno..Ravewave will have an invasion I guess......

PLUR XVI RIP.

I think you should start something like an "Old XVI Users" section, and everyone who posts gets their e-mail address and username banned from signing up again.
