Or am I just insane.

I found that when I moved to the city it was hotter in the summertime...

Buildings and smog and such?

Discuss.

Malloweens

(And actually it's got to do with the buildings being shorter, and the fact that we were too damn close to the river and had very few buildings to block the air coming from it)

Its colder in the west because there aren't as many buildings to block the icey cold wind.

i don't htink it has anyhting to do with the buildings- maybe a bit, but buildings can't affect the weather. and it's warmer in the west in winter time

Well I was wondering if it was colder here in the West Island in winter or what...'cause I can tell in the summer it's warmer in the city...

It's either that or the heating's not working well.

Your not insane. The higher buildings in the city act as a sort of "city wind-breaker" so that the wind doesn't seem as cold. In the waste, specificaly around here, it's all 1-2 story houses, so not only is there less wind-resistance, but we've also got the wind/air that's coming off the river, which makes it more humid here, which means that it feels colder than it really is for the same reason that if it's warm humidity will make it seem warmer.

welll buildings cause a windtunnel effect that makes the wind in the winter feel colder and they may block the wind in the summer. less ventilation allows the heat to accumulate. i think.

Downtown is protected by a mountain, the west island is not. And since the jet stream flows west, we always get the brunt of the storm, the worst winds, ect ect ect.

But the temperature difference isn't all that great. Just compare Dorval's temperature reading with one taken downtown and theres only a few degrees difference.
