 Coolness: 194725 | maybe i am missing something here, but:
isn't the whole affiliate commission PER sale much easier when you DONT embark on the bumpy road of trying to track a click all the way down to checkout; instead, you store the referer's id in a cookie (before anyone tells me that some people deisable cookies, well probably 75% of all the other functionality on the site depends on them one way or another, so most likely the person would have to enable them anyway), and then store it in the dbase when the customer registers on site in order to pay. usually the customer, if new, will be assigned a login and id, so the referer id is storerd with it. returning customers get their referer updated, or not, depending on your affiliate policy. After that, its dead simple. Whatever the customer buys, generates commission for the associated referer. Anyway thats the way I build my affil system for some companies... from scratch... not alot of code, I find most ready made stuff that's out there is way too bloated for no reason. As for the exchange of ideas/contracts thing, I am down for putting up a dedicated forum for this kinda stuff... I just wouldnt have any time to spread the word, thats why I didnt do it yet, cuz the power is in the audience... but if I can get some help, sure why not. p.s. nick its good to know you're a fellow coder :) |

My friend runs [ ecoupons.com ] which is linked through [ cj.com ] and they all just put a cookie on your machine while at the same time logging your browsers id, if the two match then you have a go and if they don't, then too bad... This way they keep a history of you as you go places, and if you clean yourself up, they check their database, and readd your old id... |
