The original is great. Tobe Hooper couldn't afford a lot of stuff so he bought some crappy, low-quality film, so the whole thing looks a little grainy and washed out and has a sort of yellowish-beige tint to it that really, REALLY helps the atmosphere look more dirty and run-down. The whole thing is such a classic. Gunner Hansen was great as the first Leatherface, but man the new guy really did a good job.

Like, the original at some points, it's just so brutal it isn't even funny. Like the scene with the guy that gets nailed with a hammer to the head, how he just drops to the ground and starts convulsing, it was so realistic! And all the stuff like the furniture made of bones, chickens in cages, it all had such an incredibly creepy vibe to it that it's still a little creepy watching it by today's "standards" As to what's scary and what's not.

And yes Heather, it is based on a true story, but very VERY loosely. Ed Gein only had one friend (a retard) that helped him dig up corpses, and he only killed 2 people, and both of them it was becuse they suspected something was going on with him, it wasn't because he wanted to kill so much as he didn't want to get caught.
