best way is to simple sign all your lyrics with dates.

that way you can sue someone if they use the same stuff.

though if it's vocal trance, you forefit any legal action automatically, the same way you forefit your life if you listen to that stuff.

if he puts a date on it, it's still not good enough, he has to mail that to himself and leave the envelope un-opened with the postoffice date stamped on the envelope

The mailing thing is an old wives tale. Like spilling salt is bad luck. The way you do it is to submit it for copyright. You don't need a copyright lawyer unless you've got a problem but you could get a notary to verify it. The mailing to yourself doesn't neccesarily get a date on it (find a letter with the date on it in Canada...go ahead I'll wait for you) so if you want to go through with it make sure you send it registered mail. Mailing it will demonstrate creative precedent but that is not a guarantee that it is protected. If the other dude's lawyer is better than yours he might win. Unless it's vocal trance. Then nobody wins.

actually you have to deal with the opic (office de protection intellectuelle canadien).

You dont need a copyright lawyer but this shit is so complicated you wont understand half of the shit written on the forms
