Magendie's Puppies
Magendie, was a physiologist in the late 1800's/early 1900's who discovered how the Central Nervous System actually worked, and he did this by removing the spinal cords from puppies while they were alive, and found that the dorsal nerve roots control sensation, and the ventral control movement. Thus is you sever all dorsal nerve roots along the spinal cord, you feel no pain. But if you sever only the ventral ones, you feel all of the pain, but you cannot move, cannot cry cannot react. |
