Wow, they made a flash demo of the Infinitum Phantom console!
So they've succesfully done what every other flash-site on the internet does. All looks, NO content. (The Infinitum Phantom is total bullshit) If you want to learn to make nice web pages, don't do them in flash. |

going to school for graphic design is pointless.
all they`ll do it teach you how to use the applications, they wont teach you how to do proper layout or design. just learn on your own. |

those kinda sites are good for big name companies that have nothing to put online other then pictures of their products.
it's like a McDonalds website. whats the point of it even existing other then to show that a company called McDonalds exists. |

or if your site is of some gaming/movie/generally entertainment theme
commercially, this site would suck. simple not-so-web-advanced purchasers wouldnt know where to go |

the assumption is that like any other art form the ability to design can't be taught, they'll teach you the apps like neoform says, but you have to rely on yourself to develop an eye for what looks good and what doesn't.
for someone who doesnt have the drive to sit down and learn independantly all the time, my school's treating me right. but you can't expect to walk out of technical college like IAD or Lasalle or Interdec or whatever and expect to get a high paying job. Get a dec in cegep from somewhere like Dawson in their multimedia program, then go to U of M for their design course. They are by far the best at university level for multimedia development. And jesuschrist does it make me want to speak french better. As a side note, Concordia has a couple of design-oriented courses but they're more theoretical than practical. Check out Digital Imaging and Sound or Design Art if you're interested. Regardless of what you choose, be prepared to shell out a fuckload of money and sacrifice your social life for your computer. |

If you want to learn design, ask yourself this:
Can you reach goals independantly or do you need help? If you chose the latter, goto school, if you chose the former, goto Google. |

...and successfully not be hired in any reputable firm.
its all about the paper status. |

don't go into dawson's multimedia program. biggest waste of time ever. 50% of the people in the program dropped out after the first semester. i made it 2/3 thru the second semester. |

that drop out rate applies to dawson's comp sci program.
by the end of 1st year 1/4 of the students are left. |

man it cant be that bad, university comp sci dropout rates are much smaller
or maybe its cuz people in uni are more serious and are actually willing to stick with it, hehe |
