Yes it should, unless you wanna make a career out of it and you rely on the profits and royalties...than that sucks.

if u (as in the artists)love making music so much, then u should do it for free, and not give a fuck about the profits u make..and not giving a fucking shit about kazaa and people downloading ur music.
at least they like.
isnt that all u need?

As in not getting paid..

I think artists who are just starting out should always give their stuff for free, shows that they really enjoy what it is their doing and they think other people would to.. but if your music is your talent then why not make money off it .. the world needs entertainment just like it needs anything else, and if anyone should get paid it is the entertainers and musicians cause they put smiles on our faces and let us discover music and music is such a powerfull thing. so no I dont think music should be free but anyone willing to do it for free rocks! :)

i dunno one way i see it as, none of you have made a song that people in diferent coutries know... nobody knows who you are or anything you made, so imagine if people were listening to your song all over north america and in the uk, you might wanna get $$ for it.....

Music shouldnt be free. For electronic artists it costs them thousands of dollars in equipment. and they have to live too ya know.

But people that download mp3s are the people that wouldnt buy cds anyways. They are the same people that used to put everything on tape. Nothing has changed

I gave out music for a long time but now I need money so I'm going to start selling cds. Since I'm not well known at all its unlikely it will be easy to find mp3s of my stuff ripped from sold cds.

Free music is a good way to promote yourself but when you spend money on equipment and computer and stuff you aren't actually giving away music for free, you are giving it out at a LOSS, which sucks.

djneoform: I don't feel like failing school.

I think the only reason you want music to be free is because you are a DJ and you want to be able to get all your music for free then get paid for playing it in front of groups. Sounds pretty damn selfish to me

I say that scotty totally deserves money for his music. He has been busting his balls for a while now and he is one of the best montreal producers i know.

For me I dont have any tracks worth any money yet. As for spinning I dont charge too much and sometimes i even spin for free but i want people to know that it is no profit for me because i pay around 100$ a week in records anyways so I need that money, unlike some djs that charge insane amounts just to play records, which is lame
