Ian says:
hehe
Michael Dino says:
what?
Ian says:
read my last post on the Ai thingy
Ian says:
i wrote a lot. heh
Michael Dino says:
ok
Michael Dino says:
interesting
Michael Dino says:
sorry.. i had to poop
Ian says:
indeed.
Ian says:
thoughts?
Michael Dino says:
yes
Ian says:
..
Michael Dino says:
i agree.. but you didnt explain it well... i understand cuz i spoke with you about it...
but theyll just see it as an unbased attack cuz theyre stuck on their ideals
Ian says:
how didn't i explain it right?
Michael Dino says:
i dunno... you seemed to have been annoyed when you wrote it
Ian says:
heh
Ian says:
anytime i write a lot it's cause i'm cheesed.
Ian says:
i write fast, so i end up writing a lot
Michael Dino says:
yeah... well it showed
Ian says:
thing i don't get it why voidnull thinks AI is possible.. he actually knows a fiar bit about computers..
Michael Dino says:
i know...
but dude.. just like you think that one day well be able to go faster than the speed of light.. he thinks that one day computers will be smart... who knows what the future holds
Ian says:
but there's a difference..
Ian says:
what i'm talking about is with current computer technology, like, all computers are based on the same idea, and current computer technologies don't allow it.. and i'm basing my faster the light idea on the fact that the whole ideal will someday change.. a long time from now given, but still it will eventually change
Ian says:
sure, in a 100 years we might have AI..
Ian says:
but no time soon
Ian says:
real question is, why would we really want AI?
Ian says:
would you really want a massively superior (compaired with humans) system coexisting with humans? don't you think it might find us irrelivant and want to get rid of us?
Michael Dino says:
exactly!
Ian says:
like, AI is a nice idea, but completly useless.. if it had it's own will why would it work for us?
Michael Dino says:
EX-FUCKING-ACTLY!!
Ian says:
it'd say fuck you, i'm gonna go do my own thing
Michael Dino says:
matrix.. hello!
Ian says:
hehe
Ian says:
copy this chat into that thread. heh
Michael Dino says:
thats exactly what it would do.... we'd be entirely useless to them...

So if we follow the whole thing, then yeah. I agree that we won't achieve complete AI on the current technology. But computer technology evolves. Ian is still denying that computers will be able to use quantum mechanic based CPUs, EVEN THOUGH THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN CREATED!

He denies their existance and thinks I'm just gullible in believing articles POSTED BY MIT.

Yeah, those guys at MIT totally have NO idea what they're doing when it comes to technology.

Bunch of hacks the lot of 'em.

my dad got a Ph.D in computer engineering at MIT..

i talked to him about this calculating infinite amounts of data in a second.. he says that's impossible, and i agree.

Yeah, people that got degrees on technology that's 10-20 years old are TOTALY up to date on ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING that's going on in the world.

hahaha

he's a professor at McGill, University of Montreal, and University of Quebec..

He's also got a lifetime subscription to 'Technology' MIT's magazine..

i dunno about you but you seem to be greatly underestimating who involved you have to be in a particular field to become a doctor of it.

Yeah, and acording to previous conversations, he's got a PhD in something related to AUDIO.

Not quantum mechanics. Not anything involving the programing of computers. Not anything related to ANY of the subjects related to what we're talking about.

And so that you don't go changing your story, I will bring this up, which apeared in our conversations about analog being better than digital, because *I* back up my arguments with PROOF.

(The following Cut and Paste was taken out of a conversation on analog gear being better than digital. I will gladly post the whole thing to show that it isn't faked. The purpose of this is to show that Ian's dad studied things related to AUDIO and not things that relate to computers, artificial inteligence, quantum mechanics or computer programing, and his "My daddy went to MIT argument is nothing but filler material to try and pull an "I TOLD YOU SO!" on all of us.)

(*)(R)Spoo-KAY(R)(*): And yes, I am getting links to back up my analog favoring.
Ian: heheh oookay...
Ian: i'm gonna trust my dad on this one..
Ian: he's the one subscribbed to bout 5 audio mags and got his ph.D at M.I.T..

Ian: my dad's showm me the stuff he's studied and shown me that's all we can hear..
(*)(R)Spoo-KAY(R)(*): And like I said before, just because you can't hear it, doesn't mean that it doesn't affect you.
Ian: he even has that sorta stuff on his exams for the course he teaches at McGill and the U of M

So, now that we've established that your either a: bullshitting about your dad's atendance at MIT or B: you are using said atendance as a catch-all wild card to try and prove yourself right when you are backed into a corner in an argument and have NO evidence and can't even back up your point.

Just because daddy went to MIT doesn't mean that his PHD got transfered to you through genetics, and it also doesn't mean that whatever he studied is relevant to the discussion at hand.

Good day.

i'm gonna go get you a photocopy. it says "electrical engineer" and his course of study was computers.

and that whole "oh your using the your daddy excuse" BS is so fucking lame.

yes, believe it or not people do talk with their parents and learn a shitload from them, so their knowledge rubs off on their kids.

this doesn't mean i know as much as he does, but i've learned a lot from him.

Maybe you should learn to research things that your talking about then. Even if you don't believe in it being possible. All you've been doing was coming up with excuses to "discout" the facts and proofs and studies etc that you didn't even bother reading.

Take religion for example. I know your against it and all, but have you actually read the whole bible, on your own, just because? What about the Koran, or the Bagva Gidda?

It's one thing to be against something "just because I don't think it could be possible", and it's a completely diffrent thing to be against something because you've done research on various sources and have legitimate reasons besides "blind" dissbelief as to why it can't be possible.

We've all thrown out at you things like links to studies, to research that people are doing, and links to things that have already been developed, albeit in a rudimentary form (quantum computer) yet throughout all this, you keep going back to "It won't work because..."

Plus, you just said it yourself:

this doesn't mean i know as much as he does, but i've learned a lot from him.

Does HE know EVERYTHING that there is to know about absolutely everything on the planet? I highly doubt it. And even then, you admited youself that you don't know everything he does, but you've learned a lot.

Was being stuborn and not researching and backing up your argument something you learned? I'm certain you'll get very far in school if you ever have to write a thesis and you provide absolutely no research material on the field of your thesis other than "I thought of this part last week" "I got this concept while talking to Dino" and "This part of my thesis was done through some extensive thought while inebriated at a local watering hole", though it would make for interesting footnotes.

READ a little, open your mind, and stop being so goddamn anal. Not having knowledge on a subject doesn't make you stupid. Not willing to open yourself up to new ideas and concepts, ESPECIALLY when it's related to computersand technology, then THAT makes you stupid.

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight....

fred... listen... i dont care what the fuck youre talking about, i dont want to know.. just get off your fucking high horse...
wtf is your problem?
fuck... youre telling ian to "open his mind" and learn.. fuck! why dont you learn to be a bit more understanding, maybe even tolerant?
listen.. not ALL of life's problems can be solved by mere logic and research.. while these things may prove youre right, theyll also prove youre a big fucking asshole with no life who spends his time looking for old chat logs with someone just to make him look stupid...

get the fuck over yourself
youre not almighty, youre DEFINITELY not all-knowing
you seemed to be a cool guy, but youre looking like more and more of a big fucking loser prick as of late...

youre not the authority on anything, just like ian int the authority on anything ither... fuck so you disagree, why does it have to become a mudslinging fest?
christ... both of you... calm... its a fucking discussion board where e'tards post... its not the goddamn UN

fred i don't research shitloads of things cause i like to learn things on my own.

i've formed my own conclusions on all the things i believe, while they might have been influenced by others, none of my beliefs are 'blind'.

I'm going against your AI idea, who could i possibly be following on this matter, it's so not blind. Just because there's research on something doesn't make it possible..

NASA is reasearching how to terraform mars.. will it happen? maybe.. but simply because there is research doesn't conclusively mean it's possible.

I will believe AI is possible when i see it. Not untill then, since for all i know all this reseach could be for varporware.

you just admitted to being ignorant right there.

By refusing to do research into the subject, you can no longer form an intelligent opinion on it, because you just don't know what you're talking about, and refuse to go deeper into the subject, researching facts ect.

I can understand someone not understanding the subject matter, but I can't figure out someone who partakes in a debate on the subject matter, but refuses to do anything but make factless assumptions.

Thats being ignorant.
