Coolness: 201925

Coolness: 2749340
| Why? |

| Is it really that hard to just install norton antivirus and raise your security setings in your e-mail client so that it doesn't run javascript or macros? |
|
Coolness: 201925

|
Coolness: 300025
| no you go on [ www.antivirus.com ] and you use the free online scan. Its better than norton since it updates itself automatically everytime a new virus is put in the database |

Coolness: 340365
| ahaha
auto updates are what got MS in trouble.. |

| I will be blunt
There is a term in geekology called PEBKEC, it stands for Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair.
Every single email attachment virus spreads not because of a flaw in Outlook or Eudora or Netscape Mail, but because of PEBKAC.
I bet none of you could point out a wide spread worm that spread as a direct result of a operating system or program's lack of security.
LoveYou, Code Red, SQL Slammer, MS.Blaster, SoBIG, all the results of PEBKAC.
Take the SQL Slammer bug. Disabled the internet for about an hour or so. Huge infection, got tens of thousands of computers scanning every single IP address in IPv4 to find a vulnerable computer, and it spread within minutes, infecting Microsoft's database server MS SQL 2000. Was it the fault of microsoft?
No.
People who were smart used the patch microsoft had available for a month before that worm spread. I use outlook. I love outlook, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with outlook. I just don't run attached programs/scripts and infect myself, and of course I stay uptodate with all the latest security fixes.
What society needs to do is stop going "Oh, viruses, they are bound to happen" and start blaming the people who facilitate their spread. The system administrators who don't know how to use microsoft's website to keep uptodate, the computer users who open attachments. These people are responsible. |

Coolness: 340365
| yeh, not everyone can be so learned. |
|
Coolness: 686290
| Blaster didn't come by email for one, and if you didn't have the patch (Which means your a fucking muppet for going more than 2 days without updatin windows) then you don't deserve to use a computer. |
|
Coolness: 340365
| well duh, only people who know how to read hex should be allowed to use computers.
no noobs allowed man. computers are only for cool people. |

| you don't have to be extremely computer literate to understand that viruses can be prevented with a few simple steps. Unfortunately, we do not punish those who DON'T take those simple steps, so viruses are always allowd to spread. |
