 Coolness: 686310 | yeah, I mean it's not like I'm using the thing to access ultra-detailed PDF medical manuals to save lives during open-heart surgery.. I can handle a 50ms gap between my MP3s, or taking 1 second to load the next page of my epub files.. hell I've been using my hacked PSP the whole time before - 15-20 seconds to load an e-book, 10+ seconds to turn the page depending on the format.. 32megs of ram w/333mhz cpu lol.. compared to the Acer Liquid E... it's a major fucking upgrade.. |

The specs for the slower thing are the PSP specs, that's what I'd been using as a PMP/ebook reader/wireless web browser up until I got this phone.. It did it's job, but holy fucking shit was it a pain in the ass at times.. Slooooow loading anything and everything that wasn't music or the PSP games.. literally an 8 meg PDF of all of HP Lovecraft's work took 1m30 to load, and a good 20 seconds to load the next page.. no pictures, just pure text.. TXT files were a little better, but not by much.. less initial loading time, but still a good 30-40 seconds.. The Liquid E is a fucking godsend.. I think that if they can work an Android-style instant-loading/save-state/whatever it does to make every app load so goddamn fast, into a regular Desktop OS.. that's what's going to dominate the market.. of course, SSDs are going to be a requirement.. but I've also read that there are some computer scientists working on the next generation of computer architecture based around SSDs/RAM merging.. where there's no more need for RAM, your SSD is connected to the motherboard/CPU/OS in the way Ram traditionally is right now, so that everything you have on the drive is essentially "in ram" always. |

My guess is HDD will then be viewed as we see optical drive these days and the later will be seen as tape backup nowadays. Although... The optical drive in the XBOX360 seem to turn mighty fast (I wonder how much electricity it uses). |

it's happened before in older drives.. the speed control would fuck up and CDs would explode in them.. I'd love for it to come to that though, where SSDs replace RAM.. Imagine how awesome that would be? |
