Vatican Fights Gay Marriages

VATICAN CITY (CP) - The Vatican launched a global campaign against gay marriages Thursday, warning Catholic politicians that support of same-sex unions was "gravely immoral" and urging non-Catholics to join the offensive.
The Vatican's orthodoxy watchdog, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, issued a 12-page set of guidelines with the approval of Pope John Paul in a bid to stem the increase in laws granting legal rights to homosexual unions in Europe and North America. "There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God's plan for marriage and family," the document said. "Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law." The Vatican document, Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons, sets out a battle plan for politicians when confronted with laws or proposed legislation giving homosexuals the same rights as married heterosexuals. It also comes out strongly against allowing gay couples to adopt, saying children raised by same-sex parents face developmental "obstacles" because they are deprived of having either a mother or a father. "Allowing children to be adopted by persons living in such unions would actually mean doing violence to these children, in the sense that their condition of dependency would be used to place them in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development," it said. The document says Catholic politicians have a "moral duty" to publicly oppose laws granting recognition to homosexual unions and to vote against them if proposals are put to a vote in legislatures. If the laws are already on the books, politicians must speak out against them, work to repeal them and try to limit their impact on society, it said. "To vote in favour of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral," the document said. The document doesn't provide for specific penalties for Catholics who fail to oppose such laws, saying only that the legislators had a "moral duty" to vote against them. |

I'm amazed that you people are surprised by this.
The catholic church has little power anymore and they are trying to regain it through political influence again. Obviously, it wont work... |

no... i think the bible's 'values' are very representative of the times even now...
but for your information, i dont get my values from the bible i mean it obviously had an impact on me, having been taught from an early age, but my moral beliefs come from my own reflexions... many of them just happen to coincide with Christian belief i agree that it would be wrong to bring a child into a family with same sex parents... it doesnt make sense sure, when you're an adult, it doesnt look like it would do any harm... but when you're a child, your needs are very different... a child needs a male and female presence at an early age... its in their blood, their instincts require both sexes... you dont see many animals being raised by two males or two females do you (i know there are, but when i say raised, i mean nurtured, not merely looked after in a group)... i have no problem with homosexuals... they just shouldnt bring kids into the equation |

i agree, the vatican has my support, in this case that is.
if gay people have no concern for religion or god, then why do they want to be "officially" married anyway? |

Yeah, it's so much better to bring kids into this world with irrisponsible parents who got drunk and fucked and OOPS, here's a kid! The unwanted kids that get treated like shit and abused because they weren't wanted to begin with are SO much better off than kids who could be raised by people who WANT to rais a child and who WANT to do it properly. It's a matter of choice over accident.
As for the mariages, I think it's retarded to not let them have their silly little ritual, even if I find the whole concept of needing a ceremony of some sort have any importance on your life pretty fucking retarded. People have this inexplainable need to have people with "power" tell them "Yeah, ok, you love each other and now you can legaly fuck each other over if you aren't pleased with each other anymore" I'm hoping one day people will learn to fucking EVOLVE their brains a little and realise that you don't need the aproval of other people to "really" love each other in a way that OTHER people think you should love. |

At first, Paul sounds like he makes a good point. I'm hetero and I'm not the most religious person you know. So if I don't care that much for marriage, so why should they?
But I believe that many homosexuals are indeed religious and that, according to their beliefs, it's fine before the eyes of God to be homosexual. That's something that you probably didn't take into account. Being homosexual does not automaticaly equals being atheist. |

See Paul, there are actually some people who are gay and still believe in god. After all, god created everything. By that token, god also created homosexuality. Just because PEOPLE don't agree with it, doesn't mean it isn't "god's will". |

"i think the bible's 'values' are very representative of the times even now... "
so.. if i want to get more fish i should put my nets on the other side of my boat? thanks bible, you sure saved my day! :D "but when you're a child, your needs are very different... a child needs a male and female presence at an early age... its in their blood, their instincts require both sexes..." i suppose divorces should be illegal too.. and single mothers raising a child cause the father's a deadbeat.. they also shouldn't be allowed kids cause they wouldn't be able to nurture them properly. thats fucking BS, there's shitloads of bad parents in the world who are man-woman couples and raise their kids terribly. I think a gay couple would raise their kids the same way, obviously teaching their kid their own political agenda, but ALL parents do that. |

Silly humans, god did not create homosexuality, it was the [ devil...com ] one people work with me here. Burn the heretics.
I do not really think the christian church is losing power, I would think from recent events that faith in God has increased. |
