Quality Of Electronic Music These Days

| I dunno but I find a lot of the music being put out these days is not as good as it used to be. I'm referring more to the online/underground scene.
Like when I used to use fastracker 2 in 1996-97 people were making awesome music with programs that didn't have any effects or eq even. Pretty much like if you made music on an akai s1000 with no effects. A lot of the stuff was really awesome too, because people were forced to use tricks to get certain sounds and concentrated more on melody. I dunno maybe it's more of a side effect of the rave and club scene popularizing electronic music and everyone thinks they can learn to make awesome stuff in 2 weeks using fruityloops.
Now I find a lot of people just like to pack on effects and don't bother with getting a basic good melody or anything. Most of the best musicians I know started off using trackers... I'd suggest aspiring people to try and make a good sounding song with NO effects at all.. Then maybe add a little bit at the end to get some depth in the sound... |

| well man scratching isn't much differen't it's like you have the mixer and the tables and maybe a sampler and that's it.. and you can make good sounding stuff with a few things.. you don't need a whole rack of gear to make it sound good. |

"quality of electronic music these days"
*senile old man voice*
Baaaaack in my day people were respectable, and music was good, not like the crap that people make theeeeeese days.. all the music the kids these days are listening to is such garbage, it doesn't follow any of the 'good music' principles i've come to love.
it's quite simple, if you don't like music. don't listen to it. complaining about it means/does NOTHING. |

| Not everyone wants to compose melodies. It's not part of all styles. Some styles are just tribal or rythmical. Like Tep-Step dnb, Breaks, Funky House and of course Techno.....and it has nothing to do with time, a style is a style. |

| ya, that's true. i've enjoyed some good repetitive music in the past, and well, still do sometimes, as long as the repetitivness is in good taste/ done properly/enjoyable~
unfortunatly, I find about 80% of new undiscovered artists, [ ] or our little music authors section for example) to be lacking sustenance. not exactly stuff i would ever listen to~
why is this?
although, i know i've banged out some tunes, that i thought were the bomb, whithin my 1st year or two of electronic music making, it turns out i was just decieved by listening to it over and over to the point of recognition.
Also, i'm sure alot of people who make music, just do it for fun, which is totally cool and acceptable.
my point? i'm not sure, too early in the morning to tell.
Music for me is an undying obsession, i'd rather be dead then not create~ |

| well... i just making music for fun and i have nothing to proof to anybody. I don't know if i was targeted with this thread but whatever, i have a lot of fun when i'm working on music so i don't care. When i discovered electronic music, i was a drum and a trumpet player and i realized that the limits of this music was infinite.
music is for everyone who enjoying it. if people don't love what you do, i'm sure someone else will

| I expect all of maybe 1 person on ths planet to like spookycore, and that one person is me. :) I go out of my way to make the songs weird as hell with the most agressive druming you'll ever hear (For reference, listen to Everyone Will Suffer or Nailed to the Wrecking Ball) My aproach is to combine hardcore with slipknot-style drums. Very kick and tom oriented, few snares, and that typical hardcore distorted kick. The songs are usually in 6/4 AND 4/3, usually at well over 220 BPM, so the 6/4 is at 220 and the 4/3 sounds 1/3 faster. Since both time signatures can make 12 bar measures, they over lay on top of each other off beat but strangely coherent. Kinda like my abusing of tritones. |
