for mac...
audacity is free and it does a real good job for sound forge replacement. instead of cubase you could pick logic. you know how to reach me : matante911 ;) |

g4? Hmm don't think you will be able to run very intensive stuff on one of those.. I have logic audio on my powerbook g4 and it runs alight. The latest version doesn't work on powerpc but logic 8 does.

yeah, going for a G4 mac is a maaaaaaassive step backwards in terms of hardware/power..

It would be fine for audio editing but I think mine can handle maybe 3 soft synths with minimal effects before it's at 100% cpu

Oh man, those things are painfully slow. I know your all about to get into a new condo and such but my advice would be to build a new PC. You can build one with 5x the power of the g4 for probably 700$
Besides I don't think there's a working Cubase crack for mac, but I could be wrong.

There's Cubase for mac and it's wicked...I'm on Cubase 5 on my mac.
Not sure there's a crack but the academic editions are really cheap anyways. Audacity is a piece of crap. I have yet to find anything that comes close to Sound Forge for mac. |

well g4's are from the early 2000's (they stopped making g4 towers in 2003-04 I think), and I've never been a huge fan of em anyway (the g5 was much better and intel is MUCH better).

I've off p.c. for awhile... but last i remember sound forge was kind of a piece of crap... mind you... that was a looooong time ago... I was using wavlab in those days, and man i still wish there was a mac version. closest thing yer gunna find is a program called Peak pro which actually looks pretty sweet with vst support and all the fixin's. [ www.bias-inc.com ] But logic has an editor built in... so i've just been usin' that most of the time. I fuckin' hate garage band though... logic... protools... or GTFH

I actually use soundtrack as an editor sometimes.. it is good for some stuff
but I still use adobe audition cause it's the best when I need to do serious work

I don't like it.. corrupts files, doesn't work with some formats. primitive compared to audition
