How many times have you gone out and felt compeltely ripped off cause you paid $20.00 to hear some super star producer dj who can't mix, plays random tracks off his computer, obviously hasn't prepared any of his set cause he's been completely wasted out of his mind for the past 3 days? Happens more often than you think I put in at least 5 hours of preparation for every hour I actually dj if not more. That involves researching the type of crowd, doing music research, fooling around with the tracks to find what flows best, and making sure I play the best goddamn set I can. Like anything, the more work and preparation you put into it the better it will be. I agree 100%,especially for dj's that don't play always the same shit,if your playing at a dubstep night,you know you'r gonna play dubstep cause that's what the crowd came to hear!but if you are playing a rave or private office party,it's good to prepare yourself to any eventualite like downloading black eyed peas and ladie gaga just incase! when i get gigs that are different or longer(like at blacklight in quebec i played 7hours in the chill)i prepared like crazy 2 weeks before,cause i'm used to 2 or 3 hour sets indachill. I actually practice spinning hip-hop even though i don't play that shit out cause it makes me practice my skills.Never think you are good enough demand more of yourself that's advice from me which is similar to Bliss,and we have been djing for 20+ years! a+ love & light. |
