I know that most of the stuff is done with trackers, but really all you need is something that you can chop a sample with, like Rex or even the fruity beat-slicer..

Hell you can do it manually in Ableton, though it would take a bit more thought and effort than "Ok, my sample has slice markers, now let me roll my face back and forth across my keyboard and add a bassline"
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

to do the really off the wall shit, like the most intense venetian snares songs, you gotta use a tracker running at a way-too-fast bpm

and you use the track to do everything, of course.

Renoise is the best one now

Either that or use something like logic or another DAW and do manual sample editing in the timeline with really small slices, I know a guy who did that
I'm feeling meow right now..

yeah renoise ...

also, fruity loops is now really good for that kind of slicing.. can't really explain it, since i know fruity visually, but it's real efficient for slicing up loops. it's all done in the pattern panel, where you can copy the loop, see it, and cut it up.

sorry, i know fruity loops really well, but i suck at explaining how to work it :p
I'm feeling you up right now..

its because FL is a sampler before a DAW. so it works best for sample editing

yeah i know i can do it straight in live... takes a bit of time but its not to bad... just gotta take a sample, set it to the right speed, render, plug it into the drum machine 20 times and make each note play a different part of the sample... not to much of a headache.

just curious to see if it'd be worth it to have that going on in an audio tracker (renoise sounds like fun!) and rewire it to live

I know these things tend to be retadedly complex to learn... but hell it's not like I'm busy with university/job/promoting/djing/girlfriend/production/band...

wait...
I'm feeling lovely right now..
