Dude, you cant paint all the afterhours in Montreal with the same brush. The reason Afterhour clubs have hiphop rooms is for the money. Because they dont make enough $$$ with the house room alone.

Stereo had one of the best rooms/sound systems in north America for listening to edm, and the only one to not have a hiphop room. What does that tell you?

And as long as theses people have leverage, Stereo will not reopen.

Here's a little "organized crime" methodology.

Step 1
------
You get the police you own to shut down a place you can't buy/coerce into sharing profits with organization.

Step 2
------
upon reopening, or before, burn the fucking place down to the ground so it can't open, and make the other go bakrupt.

Step 3
------
If step one and two fail. Thenm simply get someone to shoot the motherfucker who insists on reopenning the place in question.
Everyone who stands in the way is acceptable casualty.

When it gets there, it usually werks, but then the conondrum is that the place is reopened by the dude who went thru step one to three. AND you go and give the guy more monie. all the while whimpering cuz it's not about the music anymoar.

My two cents.

2 many movies... are you a writer for C.S.I Miami?

Ufot-geez, some people have some funy ass thoughts...

I'm just saying this is usualy how it goes down.

And I don't mean to be a prick, but I can smell ass-holes a mile away, and after 15 years of going out and seeing how it runs, I could smell a shit operation like a fart in a car.

But hey, they are fun places to be, go party and all. Don't get me wrong. I'm just saying it a volative as fuck piece of business, and it's really more about the money moving around than the kids on the dancefloor.
I'm feeling numb right now..

true, but things are never clear cut when it comes to "entertainment" business, you don't have to run an afterhours to end up dealing with shaddy people who may or may not agree with your business plans... this is Montreal after all... as far as I'm concerned, I think this city deserves better clubs then what bullshit is left, seeing stereo fall like this before it's reopenning doesn't mean clubland is over, it just means people will have to wait a bit longer before things pick up in quality, which mark my words, they will...

Ufot-shit operations can generate more than just dirty money

I also think that this could have been avoided if the club had tighter security and better video survaillance... at the very least, it may have aided in the investigation... wtv, only a small amount of details have been released, so this is all speculation anyways...

Ufot-investigations can go wrong

Well here's my 2 cents

Most modern day hip hop deals with violence and gangsterism

As a result, the kids who listen to that music go out and are violent and act like gangsters

They embrace that STYLE and MENTALITY

Its not rocket science to understand that if thats what the vibe is about in that TYPE of hip hop which IS the mainstream then you gonna have the violence that comes with it

Of course not all hip hop is about violence and gangsterism, but some of it definitly is, and it has NO PLACE in an afterhours

Get rid of the hip hop rooms in these afterhours, you get rid of the violence

Now, for ravers and clubbers who wanna listen to music thats NOT about killing, violence and all the rest will go out and DANCE, HAVE A GOOD TIME and BE NICE TO PEOPLE cause thats what HOUSE, TECHNO, BREAKS, DNB and every other style of electronic music is about (except the Nazi gabber guys)

Thats why RAVES have always been THE MOST non violent events you can find, and nowadays hip hop events are the MOST violent

Ravers & clubbers embrace a certain mentality, gangster hip hop kids embrace another

Its that simple
I'm feeling sunshine right now..

You are right

but

hip hop bring a truck load of money to the after hours that have hip hop room.

So getting rid of it would mean less revenue. And it's all about the benjamins..
I'm feeling a ok right now..

There are plenty of ways to make money without having a hip hop room

Those guys don't even spend when they go out, act like douches 24/7 & they never bring ANYTHING positive except bad vibes

You know I stopped going to raves regularily when they started bringing hip hop into raves in the 90s. It was around 1996, 1997 that I noticed the CHILL OUT rooms got replaced with HIP HOP rooms

What a fucking mistake,

I mean personally I don't want to go to a rave and be surrounded by the same assholes I can find anywhere, worrying about weather I'll get stabbed for bumping into the wrong guy, so I just slowly stopped going and started my own clubnights

And no one ever got stabbed or beat up in any of the 12 years I've been playing, just good times and memories

Music is about vibes, the music you listen to will affect your mood and outlook, its like food but for the soul.

Mind what you put in your ears ;)

hip hop shows arent violent (at least not the ones i attend)

The roots , Tribe called quest (back in the dayS) , cypress hill and many many more are just about plain old good beats and storytelling in most cases.
In the first place thats what hiphop was , storytelling.

NEwayz , i agree with your point of view bliss but not fully

Last time I saw Cypress Hill live was at lolapaloza many years ago. They where the only hiphop act on the bill. Who did they have on stage with them? 4 goon's sportin black sunglasses and cell phones, arms crossed looking tough. What where they doing on stage? they weren't playing any instruments, they weren't dancing... cus Sonic Youth, Jesus Lizard and even Beck didnt have security. Maybe its a hiphop thing...

haha. Cypress Hill not violent?? I saw them in 1993 in Toronto with House of Pain and Funkdoobiest. great show. all of em are produced by DJ Muggs and each one did a great live show... I was right as close to the stage as you could get.

but I gotta say... in the mosh pit where I was, white kids were gettin their ass beat. for real. little white skater dudes were getting the shit kicked out of them by gangstas literally like 5 feet from me. it was pretty scary. but I just focused on the music and had fun and watched my back at the same time.

the friends I came to the show with from Hamilton were wayyy too scared to come up with me to the stage. they stayed way at the back of the arena where it was safe. can't say I blame em.

point being... I was into Cypress from the get go - like 1992, and I was at their show when they were new, so I know for fact they had a pretty violent message... How I Could Just Kill a Man, Hand on the Pump, Hole in the Head... I love all those songs but they are all about murder and carrying guns for protection.

shit their one video was so violent Much Music banned it.

but I dont mean to split hairs on you. I can see what you are saying about Tribe and Roots. and Cypress is soft now compared to the old days.. well no wonder, cuz they are older than me, that's for damn sure lol. so now the crowd they cater to will be much more suburban and harmless

just for shits and giggles this is the video they banned. I still love it, and it was so ill back when it came out. probably my favourite Cypress track. but if you know this track, you can see that they are hardly about peaceful storytelling ;)
